They're not very confident. https://www.smallheathalliance.com/read.php?1,2435001 Some talking about a repeat of the 5 0 mauling! With our scoring record? Haha!
'All Barnsley have to do is come and be difficult for 15-20 and we ll collapse' Thats us screwed then Joke aside, think this one will be a draw.
If we’re aggressive and go at them from the off then I’m confident that we’ll get a positive result. If we set up to contain then I’m less enthused. We need to take the bull by the horns on Saturday and Tuesday otherwise we’re asking for trouble.
So both sets of fans going in expecting the worst - makes a change from the big team mentality Their fans expecting 5-0 or even 7-0 thrashings really cant have seen much of us this season This one could go either way -maybe we will get a bit of luck for a change
Or if they score early like Burton, all our plans go out of the window. That feeling of going behind and knowing a draw is your best hope is all too familiar now.
Not necessarily. If someone scores a screamer in the first minute they’re clearly off to a flyer but you’ve got 90 minutes left to start again. I’d much prefer that than someone absolutely batter us all half and then suddenly steal one just before or after half time as then you’ve been outplayed and out scored with the game plan gone completely wrong. We’re at our best when we’re attacking teams, in my opinion. I’d push McBurnie high on the left hand side right up against their left back with Moore central on his own. I’d also stick Isgrove wide right bang on the touchline to draw their left back across and free up space in the middle for Williams/Gardner, Potts and Mallan who I would give a fluid role at the top of the midfield triangle. Let’s put the onus on them to stop us as opposed to the other way around. If we go down fighting then fine, I’d rather that than us go down with a whimper trying to stifle the opposition.
One of the National Account Managers for a major Company I have kept in touch with since my retirement is a season ticket holder at St Andrews. He appears supremely confident that Barnsley will overturn his beloved Blues. On paper, he says that they appeared to have a decent side, but they have absolutely zero confidence at the moment and things are made worse, by the fans getting on their backs when things go wrong, which at the moment seems to be every home game. If we can press them high up the pitch, it's not beyond a possibility that we can come away with the win.
Which makes this game even more important. If we beat them their negativity is just going to deepen but 3 points against us could be just what their underperforming team needs to rediscover some confidence. However you look at it this is, if you’ll pardon the expression, a MASSIVE game.
It'll be an interesting one as Birmingham are in properly bad form. It will say a lot about the losing team tomorrow, almost a case of who's the worse of the two. It's too far from the season end to say the loser is particularly more likely to drop than the winner, but the perception and psychology side of things will be huge. As an aside, despite some hostile trips to St Andrews, I quite like Birmingham fans. They always seem very down to Earth, very honest and self deprecating. Certainly better company than the largely deluded Villa fans. Met a few Brum fans this season and they have all spoke well of Barnsley and seemed to share a common understanding of football from the standpoint of not being fans of a 'massive' club.
