Most people are angry at you because of your narcissistic personality disorders and your tendancy to be the boards biggest self admitted compulsive liar

He doesn't get to troll the BBS by doing that. He doesn't get his required number of likes or the adoration that his narcissistic personality disorder requires in order for him to function

    Hi Toby,

I find this stuff fascinating and it’s really impressive, the level of detail that can go into scouting opposition and new players these days is incredible.

It can also be done from anywhere. It really doesn’t matter if the analyst is in Barnsley or Portugal. There are online platforms such as wyscout.com that combine hours of video footage with detailed statistics.

I’m talking in general here as i have no idea to what extent we are implementing the available tech but....The performance analyst can sit in his office for hours(which the head coach doesnt have) and analyse-how the opp set up with the ball, without the ball, their set piece tactics, the distance covered by their right back in the first 20 mins compared to the last 20..all sorts of available information that can be pieced together and presented to the head coach.

Like I say, I have no idea what Barnsley are doing but imo with all the money flying about and wasted by football clubs, we should be investing as much as we can in these types of activities, we can’t compete for the top players in this league so need to find that extra margin by other means.

I wondered how this post could possibly have 115 replies. Now I know and it's 15 minutes of my life I will never get back.

I subscribe to the view that more likely than not, every club in the top two tiers rely on performance analysts. They also rely on fitness coaches, nutritional experts and sports science/medical teams. They also (and perhaps most importantly) have the traditional key head coaches and their staffs. We have a Portugese head coach with a Portugese assistant and fitness coach. They were clearly brought in to offer something over and above what it was felt an English coaching team could offer. No surprise then that they would utilise a fellow Portugese or EU national of their acquaintance to assist with the performance analysis side of things - especially in the wake of the departure of our previous performance analyst to work with Paul Heckingbottom. So all of this could probably be reasonably deduced with just a few moments' consideration.

Redarmychris infers that he knows the above to be true, and that he also knows the identity of the person assisting, and soon to be appointed more permanently. I have no reason to doubt him. He does not however wish to disclose the identity of the person concerned. I would like to wager that when the appointee's name is officially revealed, I will never have heard of him! So while there is no reason to doubt what RAC infers, it does not particularly enlighten us. That's fine. I understand RAC may wish to protect his confidences. It's the same with the transfer stories. Until a signing is officially announced then any so-called "inside information" is of little value. I am told by my sources that Ashley Fletcher was at Oakwell during the window. But he didn't end up signing, so that's utterly irrelevant. It has been a Barnsley trait in all the time I've followed the club for people to want to appear "in the know" and for many to want to know someone who is "in the know". I think in the end, it all matters little until things are made official. But no doubt it brings added entertainment for those who like to chat about such things.

I've no doubt that the analyst's work assisted our cause yesterday. If you listen to Jose's pre-match interview, there's no doubt his own impressive knowledge of several of the Birmingham players - some of whom he had worked with - also aided our cause. The fitness, science and nutrition teams undoubtedly all also played a part. The respective importance of any of these factors is difficult to ascertain. That's why it is a team effort. What impressed me most was that Jose used his experience to make bolder changes to the formation and setup than we've seen for a long time, and it worked. Let's hope it works as well on Tuesday. COYR!
