Can’t see the roads clearing massively prior to Saturday, the temperatures are staying down, and there’s still a bit forecast until then. I live in Donny so haven’t seen how bad tarn is, do we think it’ll be ok? Hopefully the ploughs and gritters will sort it.
Pitch should be ok - as usual it’ll be the side roads etc. Problem is, when you grit, you need the traffic over them to help it work and clear the snow/ice. Although Pontefract Road is busy, most other roads around Oakwell are quiet and classed as side roads.
I drove to work (in Donny) this morning and it was so much worse in Donny compared to what I’ve seen in Tarn. The road through Hickleton and Marr was especially bad. At this point I’d be surprised if it’s on. However we all know how quickly English weather can change so who knows
I suppose it depends on how much more snow is deposited between now and Saturday. There's no thaw forecast to help out.
Can’t see it being on. With the low temperatures and pavements not being cleared, SYP will no doubt cancel the match for H&S reasons.
Every chance Id have thought - of it not going ahead. Temperatures not set to rise above freezing until Sunday.
It'll be off I think. More snow expected Friday evening, temperatures not picking up. The pitch will be fine but SYP will call it off due to healthy and safety.
Bit like Hull last night. Pavements were like skating rinks but different police force ensured it went ahead. SYP would have called it off.
I may be wrong here but I would have thought that its not the police's call to postpone a game on H&S grounds. Its ultimately the referees call but the clubs will have a steer on the H&S issue. Its got **** all to do with the police.
They’ll be probably more people go into Barnsley shopping on Saturday , then go to game . The market s n town shops will not be shut .
It wouldnt surprise me to be honest although if weather goes as forecast then no reason why it should be at this end. Roads were moving fairly well yesterday I thought. Don't know what travelling from Norwich will be like, the Rochdale fans managed last night. If it is it's likely to be the old surrounding areas nonsense again.
Proper snowed in up here in Brontecestercestershire. Best part of two foot of lying snow and still coming down.
It’s the surrounding roads which get no traffic hardly. That’s always been and going to be the problem. You can grit and plough all day, but the grit needs traffic flow to make it work. I’d expect a decision tomorrow AM so Norwich don’t set off on coach up.
Agreed. It would be harsh to have them travel for hours on dodgy roads to a team hotel, when there is little sign of improvement. Examiner website keeping us well informed over here..... https://www.examiner.co.uk/news/west-yorkshire-news/live-weather-updates-thursday-beast-14351529 Schools and colleges shut. Trains and buses cancelled. Roads shut. Planes delayed. Not pretty.
Looking out of my window at the moment & seeing about 6" of snow , the problem is , even when the snow stops the temperatures are Baltic & no sign of a thaw on the horizon , yesterday I was optimistic the game would go ahead but now I am extremely doubtful & to be honest if it is sub zero on saturday I will not be too upset if it is off
Yeah, and it’s the free kids weekend too - not the best way to introduce your kids to the game sat in -4 conditions. They’ll never want to come back! I get the feeling, a bit of rest for all our players is possibly not a bad thing either. Shame the indoor academy pitch is still closed at Oakwell.
I think it would be wise of the club to call it off today, plenty of notice for both Home and away fans alike, instead of waiting until the last minute.
You are spot on, & I would be surprised if training goes ahead today as I would say a lot of the players & staff will have difficulty getting to the ground . Obviously , we all look forward to the games but another plus if it is off , Jackson should be available for the next game & when they get back on the training ground, it gives Jose & his team a bit longer time to work with the players before the next match
