    Done it at the top level, quality goalkeeper with a wealth of experience, unassigned free agent.

    Could he do a job til end of season?

    I know he's old but let's face it most of our team would kill for somebody who looks old enough to buy a pint at the hotel bar.

    Once played at Oakwell and played a blinder for Sunderland. He was on loan at the time
    from Blackburn. Think it was around 1996. He's 41 years old now. Pedigree not in question,
    but can he still do it at Championship level.?

    To be fair looking at all of the unattached players there is still alot of quality out there. Could av done with a few experienced free agents in january even if it was just till the end of the season.

    I don’t know. I do know Townsend can’t Given can at least organise a defence and position himself for free kicks I’d give Davies another chance but Given isn’t a bad shout as backup and maybe a better goalkeeping coach than the one we have these days.

    Aye if nothing else, an older head who's made all his mistakes who can organise a defence and impart some knowledge on our younger keepers.

    He can’t be any worse than what we’ve currently got at our disposal, surely?!

    We really had a nightmare in not strengthening the goalkeeping department in January.

    I’d actually consider asking Matt Murray (the coach not the journalist) to step in for the remainder of the season. I know that he retired due to injuries but I wonder if he has it in the tank to play until May.

    I cannot believe people are serious about this , although his qualities as a goalkeeper have never been questioned , the fact that a 41 year old would be fit enough to step into the championship is very questionable , I know people will say its different for a goalkeeper but in reality a goalkeeper has to be extremely fit , very often they are required to come sprinting off the line acting as a sweeper or closing down on a one on one situation & we only have 10 games left

    Buffon is 40, playing at Juve.

    Considering our keeper troubles, and considering we can only sign free agents I don't think its too farfetched to suggest an ex-premier league keeper on a short term deal

    You are right about Buffon but he has not stopped playing , however , Given has stopped playing & in effect would be coming out of retirement , totally different kettle of fish

    Think both our goalies have similar traits. Let’s be honest I’ve seen Davies do exactly the same thing as Townsend for Boro s third goal.For me it’s a toss of a coin for who plays against Norwich but it’s obvious a new keeper with real presence is needed for next season hopefully in the championship.

    I suppose having Champions League games to play in does keep you on your toes doesn't it, haha!

    I guess what i'm thinking is: Is a half fit Shay Given better than a fully fit Townsend or Davies?
