Do you think he'd be able to achieve the same at Barnsley with our current squad? Is it purely down to his coaching or the spending power of the club. If he is so good then he should be able to turn moderate players into gems. Unfortunately he is only ever going to be at top clubs so we would never know the answer. By the way I thought City were mesmerising last night and to call it tippy tappy when you are a zillion points ahead of everyone else ....
They’ve both been very good, both look like natural full backs, it’s more the point that these are players who weren’t even seen as good enough in their natural positions have been converted into good players out of position. Plenty of teams have tried to attack City but most have given up. The way they destroyed Spurs apart who tried to have a go at them seems to have put many off.
To answer your question about would he be able to do it at Barnsley with the same squad , its a no . I think to play like City do you have to have top quality players but the key to success is moulding top quality players into a top quality team , that is the difficult thing , plenty of managers have had squads full of top class players at their disposal but have failed to turn them into a top class unit, playing in a style & system which becomes the norm to these players to such an extent they almost come across as telepathic , thats what Pep has achieved
I think he’d overachieve wherever he managed but he’d still be restricted by budget e.g regardless of manager Burton aren’t going to get much better than bottom 6 championship & Rochdale aren’t going to get much better than top half league one like they were last year, there’s just not the resources to sustain anything better than that.
