Fuller discussion on my thread yesterday. Getabird hasn't quite reached the 9/4 I was hoping for, but 2/1 is available for a horse unbeaten under rules, and whose last two wins have been by 9 lengths and 7 lengths on heavy ground! I still think Buveur D'Air is the likeliest winner of the Champion Hurdle, but having studied the race further I've come to the conclusion that Faugheen has been written off way too quickly, and that the bookies have taken a big chance at 6/1. As recently as 19 November he was winning a Grade 1 hurdle by 16 lengths on heavy ground! He is Ruby's chosen ride of four Willie Mullins entries for the race and I'm prepared to take a chance that he retains enough ability to justify connections running him in this.
I appreciate that it was a speculative selection but what are your thoughts this morning on Gold Present given the officially heavy going? Out as far as 12/1 with some bookies and on the drift. Still worth a speculative punt, do you think, or has the rain done for its chances?
Hope your right with faugheen got 12s other week. Got to be looking for horse that like to be up with the pace hold up horse will surely struggle to make up the ground in these conditions.
Difficult to know for sure, BR. It hasn't actually run that many times on softer ground to form hard conclusions. It has won four times on good to soft and once on good. That doesn't mean to say that it won't act on today's going. I think at the current prices I'd still be tempted to have a small bet in the hope that the trainer knows best. And it's still 20/1 for the Grand National, where better ground is more likely!
Willie Mullins has had a 100% 'run to form' rating in the last 14 days, and 7 winners from just 8 runners! Even today's 6's underrates the chance he cab still do it, but at 12's I think you've a great bet!
But was beaten 4 lengths by Somerville Boy in January at Sandown on heavy? (Somerville Boy was himself beaten by Slate House in November!)
He’s improving all the time, and working better at home then ever before, pretty sure he won in bottomless ground at Newbury as well, he’s also put on 17kg of mussel since Christmas. So they’ve put some work through him, At 5/1 with sky bet and money back as a free bet if he loses then it’s a risk free bet on an improving horse at very good odds. I do fancy Getabrid to make all of the running and run them into the ground but as I say Kalashnikov is improving with every workout.
If the four short priced 'bankers' win today the bookies are screwed. Skybet in the first race every day are offering upto twenty quid your stake as a free bet if your pick doesn't win. So I've put twenty on Getabird to win and if it doesn't at least it's a twenty quid free bet.
Getabird, Footpad, Singlefarmpayment, Faugheen, Benie des deiux, Rathvinden, livelovelaugh. My picks.
