Although I didn't make it to the meeting due to illness, it sounds like a change of tack has occurred and rather than being a Q&A type affair where points were raised by the fans and answered by the staff, going forward it will be more around the club canvassing opinion from the fans present about a variety of suggestions and initiatives. It sounds like it did go off track again though and the club was asked to address specific complaints that affected individuals and not the fanbase as a whole.

Main points from last night that were put to the group for opinion –

Forming a ‘singing section’ in half of the North Stand when the visitors don’t take the full allocation. The idea is to recreate the atmosphere we experience at away games. Supporters would have the choice of sitting in their normal seat or if they fancy a change and a sing-song the first 1000, for example, could go into the North Stand. The idea got mixed reviews.

Going in a convoy to the Leeds game. Originally Gauthier suggested all the coaches following the team bus. During the discussions around police approval, the availability of pubs in Leeds, the prices of alcohol in the ground and narrowness on the Elland Road concourses it was suggested that it may be better for us to open up our concourses and have beer tents etc here. All the fans would be together and ‘see off’ the team coach then travel together in a convoy at 1.30pm. This idea got a good reaction and everyone seemed to think the supporters would go for it.

Pricing was discussed and particularly the benefits and disadvantages of giving things away for free. For example the fact we make a nominal charge of £20 for the flag bearers package purely because if we didn’t we’d have loads of junior groups saying they’d do it and then not turning up. Likewise, the 200 free tickets we give away via Reds in the Community when some games only 25/30 of them get used even though the full allocation has been given away. We discussed the free under 12 season ticket and the fact a good couple of hundred don’t get used at all during the season and that we have a few hundred each game not used. This, of course, means that people are just taking a season ticket because they are free but it impacts ticket sales as seats in popular areas are empty but not available for sale. It was agreed that making a nominal charge for things not only imparts a sense of value but also rules out those who just take things for the sake of taking them because they are free.

Main points that the group put to the club-

Concourse TVs showing SKY news rather than the match. We’re looking into this but personally, I think it’s something to do with the cabling.

Open day – can we liven up the open day. Fans liked it previous years when there was access to the North Stand and player’s side. It was agreed we need to look at a different format.

The general consensus was that Tuesday night worked better for beer/food with the split queues and the introduction of the mobile beer bars.

Cheers Gally - with regard to the U12's season ticket - I've had one for daughter - this is her 3rd season. We sit in the Ponty, and she isn't going when we play Leeds or similar because it's ******* bonkers - my choice to sit there so I'm not complaining, just giving some context as to why some may not be used constantly. But as she gets older, she'll be there every game - that's a big part of these tickets - encourage new fans ?

did they consider introducing a winning team.... we are Barnsley and its that simple, no amount of Go Go dancers, TV's, half time 'its a knock out style' style nonsense , beer tents or whatever piffpaff will get the fans bums on seats. A winning team is the thing they want....save money on all that other ***** and get players in that can deliver what is the most important thing on every football fans list... and that is WINNING.

Christ, DT. Why do you have to spoil what would’ve been a very good thread with absolute rubbish again.

Re the OP, cheers for that @Gally, much appreciated.

Rubbish.... really ?. If I want all that kinda crap I can go to Alton Towers.... all I want is a team that wins... Is that too much to ask... Plunging money into all that other stuff as far as I am concerned is just nonsense... we need players that can actually win games... we have very few right now. Do you really think all the sugary sweet stuff mentioned will draw fans in if we are in league One... No Thowt not.

That would require a major change in attitude from the Safety Officer and SYP. The club would also have to be willing to pay for the extra stewarding/policing this would inevitably require. A huge step in the right direction if this happens.

I would imagine investment in match day experience would also have the side effect of growing the revenue of the club something the board have said they want to do in order to improve the squad.

Police won’t allow barnsley fans to sit anywhere near north stand so no idea how we could share the same stand

I understand won’t be against local rivals but just don’t see it happening

I for one would love to sit in a stand split into 2

as many more have said... the first step to improve the matchday experience is to have a team that wins and as such sends the fans home happy, Nail that one first and then think about the 'Whistles and Bells' after, they seem to be putting the cart before the horse for me.

Wouldn’t it be to the detriment of the Ponty though. As those that sing regularly in the Ponty might take this option up as well.

as I live around 250 miles away its difficult. I get there as often as I can, but in no way will a singing section , a mobile beer cart, Sky TV, or any of the other nonsense entice me to attend more. I go to more away games now than home games TBH. So whats your point... or is it that you just are trying to trip me up ? and suggest attendances merit having an opinion ?

I cannot argue with you, Gally, that a well presented club is good. BUT the priority as far as I am concerned is to have a Successful club... the rest just falls into place.

Just wondered really , there seems to be a theme not just on here but in general the ones who attend least are the ones that moan the most . The board are trying to bring the club into the 21st century and if you ask me it’s not before fooking time . I travel from the other side of Doncaster and there’s absolutely nothing to tempt me to turn up before 14.55 on a Saturday . Hopefully a few initiatives will all add to a much more positive and enjoyable experience !

Agree but the two aren't related. You can improve the cabling for a TV while also playing good football

absolutely P.E... I know I do not get to Oakwell as much as I want to these days, but as I said its 500 mile round trip for me and at the age of 63 that's a big deal... I have been supporting them for almost 60 years, and have made long and weary trips.. I have held a season ticket for almost 35 of those years , but now its just not cost efficient. I totally want the best for Barnsley, but all this Pantomime nonsense does nowt for what happens on the pitch... get the team happening first and then lets put the ribbons, bells and whistles on it.
