Yes! This is telling. I keep an eye on the loans out situation and what worries me is that many are not automatic selections for the hosting team. That speaks volumes. Maybe we need to put in contractual requirements for game time. Or buy fewer but better players?
How much money have we chucked away on punts? Probably enough to sign some actual decent players instead of ones who can only prove the plan right.
I agree selling Conor bree and winnall wasn't necessary but they would have all gone for nowt or very little end of season as we cannot compete with other clubs in this league on wages. People won't like this but the plan works very well in league one but when we got promoted we needed to move the plan forward up the wage cap a little and the quality of young players we were looking at but it's always going to be hard for us pulling 14k when we are up against teams with 2x bigger gates and rich owners throwing money at them. Unless Mr lee has a rush of blood and spends a load on proven championship players and their wages we won't be competing at the other end of the table in this league.
The wages is the stumbling block cannot believe we didn't offer Connor the 27k a week he is on at villa
So the only alternative is Steve Mallan then? It's £27k or week or none league dross? Might as well pack in.
We have a wage structure I heard hammill is the top earner at 10k. Our crowds are 13/14k our last owner was worth 60/70million (which he put his own money in)wealthy in league 1 standards but peanuts in this league. There's the reason for the plan and wage structure. I don't know if the new owners will spend big it' upto them we will see.
That isn’t the issue. The issue is signing 4 punts when one good one, perhaps on more money and maybe, god forbid, over 25, would have done
Well the wage structure is proving our downfall. It has to change going forwards, and like i said, the new owners have the means unlike the last lot. Time a few fans stopped living in the past with this 'lil old barnsley, cant afford it' mentality.
Joking apart, have you ever tried to explain The Plan to any of your mates that don’t support Barnsley? Either people look at you like you’re an idiot or they ask if Owen Oyston is the chairman.
Is that your default answer?lol. Just have to look at wolves or in fact most teams at the top of this league, they're not there by paying peanuts and making signings for ten-bob and a blackies egg! this is championship football, not sunday league. I'm saying that they do indeed need to spend their money if they want to be successful or why bloody bother owning a football league club at all? Its a bloody expensive hobby either way, they have the means so may as well try to be successful as is proving at wolves, villa, cardiff, fulham etc.
Sign players with potential to improve and make a profit on What about the effect of that on the pitch? Errrr
I like the plan it’s the only answer for a club like ours without self generating financial clout. The mistake was not adjusting it and increasing budgets when we got promoted oh and not getting players to sign contracts when they probably would have done.
