Thank you for all the well wishes. People being nice actually does make you feel better and reminds you that most folk are decent, it's a tiny minority who spoil it. I really would urge people to not walk home alone at the moment (makes me sad having to say that). I've always done it, always felt safe in Barnsley, but I don't anymore.
Oh, I dunno - investigate the crime perhaps? Send someone out, ask questions, request witnesses to come forward. At least try and solve the crime? You know, just to give Jay and the public at large a semblence of belief that they are on our side and the criminals the belief that there is a chance they might be caught and that they can't mug people with impunity knowing our streets aren't actually lawless no go areas. Shockingly old fashioned of me I know.
Absolute pond life to do what they did to a fellow human being. Hope you are soon feeling better Jay and as others have said, let's hope that at some point, they're caught in the act and get what they fully deserve.
Happy with your real world are you? Want to defend it? Want to have your kids brought up in it? Or just accept it, as though nothing can be done about it.
Sorry to hear that Jay, bloody awful thing to happen and a pretty shoddy response from Plod if you ask me. I hope you recover quickly mate.
I know it's standard practise that most threads on here, nowadays, become embroiled in a petty argument... But not this one please. It's just folk wishing a fellow fan well, and a bit of anger venting at police incompetence. But not the place for a confrontation. Try another thread. Plenty to choose from.
Come on that's just nonsense. Small crimes simply don't get investigated anymore , even some serious crimes like theft and burglary don't. Yes it's **** but that's the reality .
Well I agree to a sadly large extent. We ought not to accept it as the new reality though. Our fellow poster has been the subject of what appears to be a serious assault. We don't have much to be proud of if we have to live in fear of walking in town at night. And if the perpetrators are bound to get away with it.
The thing is though, I wouldn't call Jay being t.watted from behind, dragged into a bush and having all his belongings nicked a small crime. That sort of thing can affect people's mental well being and confidence for years. I hope Jay is strong enough to put it behind him but I don't think it is too much to ask that the Police treat it more seriously than they would a kid nicking a gob stopper.
You might not think its a small crime, I don't think its a small crime and poor Jay certainly doesn't. But the police do because they haven't got either the will or intention or resources to sort it out .
All the best Jay, it really does sound horrific. I find it incredible that you’ve been turned away from the police station following a serious assault. It’s simply not good enough and I’d seriously consider making a complaint, raising it with the PCC or with your local MP. My friends and I were once set upon outside of the Lucorum by the bouncers where one of the lads was stamped on. We walked up the alley and found a parked police car. We knocked on the window and the car drove off. We then walked up to the station and the guy on the desk refused to accept our story and said that as we had been drinking he couldn’t do anything. He reluctantly agreed to take notes and we agreed to return the next day. On our return there was no record of our attendance or of our complaints. I really hope that there’s CCTV to help catch the odious perpetrators in your case mate.
Police precepts continue to rise but where are the bobbies on the beat or anywhere ? And before the Tory bashers get an erection this has been an ongoing problem for donkeys .
Ruddy hell mate. I didn't think your evening would get worse after me putting my foot in it in the pub! There are some horrible people out there and I'm quite appalled by the attitude of the PC that you spoke with. I know that the job is an increasingly difficult one, thanks to the lack of support and investment from our government, but they should at least be able to retain their compassion. I had heard that the town end has become quite dodgy late at night and that gangs take advantage of the lack of CCTV and police presence, but as someone has already said, it's a sad state of affairs when you can't be safe just walking home from a night out. I'd go via Pitt Street from now on if I were you. Hope the bumps heal quickly and the theft doesn't cost you or inconvenience you too much and hope to see you next Saturday for a couple of pints (on me!).
Once people lose confidence in the police they find ways of looking after themselves - some will resort to carrying knives, not with a view to attacking anyone but as a means of defending themselves.
Sorry to hear about that jay These bards r gonna kill someone before long . Report it to your mp about the police inaction it may seem as though it’s a waste of time but it really isn’t . You can ask for a progress report from him . Hope you get well soon mate and get these twts before it’s tpo late for someone else
