Alright, so I was always crap at football. Truly abysmal. I thought going to Oakwell to watch the match was as close as I'd ever get to being in any kind of team. My son however hasn't even hit 4 yet, and he can dribble and sprint, shoot with some good power and accuracy, pass better than I can and is slowly learning the art of tackling. He's obsessed with it, and I think he's actually really good for his age. Then throw in the fact his uncle, my brother-in-law, was capped for the US national side and now coaches the New York Red Bulls, and I suppose he has a bit of pedigree. Don't have much contact with his uncle unfortunately. I'd like to know a bit about the junior leagues around Barnsley because I think it's something he'd really love and it'd give him something to look forward to every week. Thing is, I know sod all about any of it. What's the youngest age bracket? Is there an under 5s? If so, which teams are closest to Kendray/Stairfoot? Would be great if anyone who knows much about any of the local sides could get in touch
The club used to do something for that age group on a Friday and in the school holidays don't know if they still do. There are also the FA Skills Courses which start at 5 but the nearest is Wakefield. http://faskills.thefa.com/SkillCentres/West Riding/LightwavesLeisureCentre Think most Junior teams start with U7s.
Not much team wise at that age, they're still learning the skills so a team game doesn't really offer much benefit. I started my 5 year old at Barnsa a few months ago, they're based at Honeywell and the younger groups are inside. A few of the Academies have already started picking up some of their players, they also have someone in Man City U7's. This is the guy who run's it, he's on holiday at the moment and his facebook page is down, when it's back up search for "Barnsa Football Academy" https://uk.linkedin.com/in/luke-forgione-28216773
It's 'Bsa SportsAcademy' He's in Barcelona with the BSA students on football tournament (Copa Maresme). My son's a student and out there Son started playing at 5 year old and went through all the age groups U7's to U14's (Redfearns, Kexborough, Darton, Shaw Lane). Then one day he woke up and just decided he'd had enough and jacked it in. But a few years later he went back and did U16's and U17's.
