As already mentioned we have a recruitment team like any other club would have but I think James's involvement will be minimal. His father said at a meeting that a young mathematician would have no sway on an experienced coach like Danny Wilson for example when it comes to recruiting players.I recall Patrick getting quite upset that some supporters thought James had too much involvement. It appears he shows an interest in the players data but that's about it.
And yet the new owners stated that they bought the club partly because of the statistical analysis approach developed by James Cryne.
The statistical analysis approach wasn't developed by James though there's lots of clubs that have used data input for years .There's nothing wrong with identifying a player to see if he's good enough then checking his stats to see if hes compatible to what you're wanting but I would think our recruitment team would do that. Any way match time.Enjoy the game all of you and lets hope we can celebrate getting 3 points this afternoon.
You would have to say that our recruitment in the last 12/18 months has been at best poor. As much as it was very good prior to that...we are in the prediciment we find ourselves now because we replaced all our best players with (again) lower league "gems"...unfortunately we are in the championship...the maths this time do not compute. We had neither the time nor staff to get these players upto the required standard.....we were very good at taking money for our better players but replaced them with (ahem) lets say work in progress players....who we believed we could replicate the connor..winnall era. In short our rectuitment policy needed amending for the standard of this league...and unfortunately that includes spending a few quid on 2/3 players...who were ready and could make a difference....in this league. Whatever our spreadsheet ...recruitment plan is ...it needs amending. I know someone who knows Brian Young and he is good at assesing players but maybe he is told to just run the rule over "chosen" identified targets and given the spreadsheet remit...ie without been asked to go find say a midfielder who needs to do this and this. In short do we need a head if recruitment.?...no we kind of have one...what we need is a better plan and understanding of the league we are in.....and recruit accordingly...if that means spending cash...then lets do it or we may just find ourselves where we are now.
What folk forget is the sheer number of players thrown away as substandard to get those 6 players to flog on
The budget needs to be managed properly, how much money have we wasted on Mowatt, Mcgheegan, Knausmuller, Mallan when we already had Moncur for that position. We need to have a core of quality players that are automatic choices and supplement this with the odd gamble, accademy and loan players. The club have made an absolute balls up of recruitment over the last 12 months, yet no one seems responsible.
I thought this was some mandatory academy role? I seem to think Patrick mentioned something like that when I asked him about it
