I think I went to that game.Peter Fox made his debut in goal on loan and it ended up 0-0.Absolutely freezing if I remember right.
Nice article on the left of the photo about the Barnsley juniors (before there were Academies) and George Kerr. Great player George was for us in the 1960s.
Sorry about the poor quality of the scan. I'll probably put a few more up if anyone's interested. Credit goes to jimmycricket who's been putting this sort of stuff up for a while. Its always nice for us old gits to reminisce. I think I went to my first away game that season but that was Huddersfield. The exotic far flung climes of Watford were a couple of years away. In fact Vicarage Road is still one of the twenty odd I've not been to.
Don't know about that. I can confidently say though that the primary colour of all the boots pictured would have been......black.
Aye, proper boots back then, non of these plastic multi coloured ***** they wear these days , but I must say they look like sambas that Watford players wearing. Playing professional football on a muddy pitch in just thi trainers, respect sithi.
Its like looking in a mirror isn't it Peachey. lol Ive still got some of those late 70s progs but my first season wasn't until 80-1.
I was at that match, which at that time was like a home game for me , as I was living in Aylesbury at that period , however getting to Oakwell every other week was like having 23 extra away games in a season ! happy days
Ive got almost all of our homes from 1980 to about 2014 (when I finally stopped collecting them lol). I wonder if they're worth owt these days.
I was there n'all. I remember Elton John was introduced to the crowd at half time and the Barnsley fans were singing Charlie Williams's name. Having made us stand in the home end with a line of 3 or 4 Coppers for protection we were taken over the dog track to the coaches at the end.
