Maybe when he left people realised that we had been delusional in thinking he was a good manager because he was 'Barnsley through and through' when in reality he wasn't. Lots of his tactical subs towards the end of his reign baffled me and the way he treat Macdonald was deplorable. A good manager would be able to grind out results with a below par team and hecky wasnt that. Glad to see the back of him and it's good to see fans opening their eyes and realising he wasnt actually very good. His success came from a team that picked themselves, hardly a tactical masterclass.
To be fair, I reckon a larger number of people were coming to the conclusion that Hecky wasn't actually very good towards the latter end of his reign than you would believe by reading this forum. No-one fancied suggesting as much in print on here though because they didn't want to be publicly lynched and ridiculed by those who thought he was the new messiah.
that's where i got to....when he was linked with the Forest, Norwich and sundaland jobs i didn't want him to go. Then i went to Villa and thought he had lost the plot and as someone else has mentioned, had turned into flicker 2, believing his own hype. When Leeds came in i would have been more disappointed had he stayed. He has a worse points per game ratio with the Leeds squad than Morais has with the one he inherited..emphasising to me we would definitely had gone down had he not left. We have a chance now....not that we are good enough but that there are others equally so. We are paying the price for poor recruitment. We have 3 midfield players out on loan deemed surplus to requirements who we cant recall at the business end when injuries and suspensions start to bite, yet are now reliant on one loan player for the central midfield role.
He's got better players than Morais though. Those same players started the season well and already had 40 odd points when Hecky took over. His remit was to get them back on track.
After that they can go for Spacker, by which time they'll be planning their relegation to League Two. Christ! We've had some poo managers.
