Is it possible for clubs to formally complain to the FA about a referee?

The Bolton player put his head into McBurnies face, yes he made a right old meal of it, but we are told in today’s game that if a player puts his head into another players face/head it is a red card.

Exactly. The offence is the intent.

I think the rule changed some time ago.

Originally it was if any part of the foot was over the line. Even if an inch.

Now i think it has to be the whole of your foot over the whole of the line.

Memory not as good now but sure that's what it is

Yes Im not doubting that and players shouldnt do it and shouldnt be allowed to get away with it, but how would we feel if McBurnie (or any player) had feigned injury like that against us and got one of our own players sent off.

Well it has happened, this season and it’s not nice, however, that’s the problem., It’s always against us.

And what about the questionable non-penalty again which went against us. When did we last get a pen by the way, Im struggling to think off the top of my head.

Beevers 2 footing hammill closely followed by him dragging hammill to the ground after he turned him in the first half resulted in **** all.
The foul on Moore in the box at the end of the game was one of the clearest penalties you’ll see, and again nothing.
    Diabolical refereeing today.
Having said that, the enforced withdrawal of Potts coupled with the team dropping 15 yards contributed most to what feels like a defeat to me.

This is what really wound me up. Moore booked for 2 or 3 nothing incidents and Beevers fouled Hammill alone 3 or 4 times in that first half and didn't even get booked. The inconsistency in decisions was appalling!

And we missed it didnt we, in what was another 2-2 draw with Bristol City.
It reminds me of the terrible pen given against us in the FA cup replay at Oldham in '96, and I think Danny Wilson did make a complaint about it to the FA.
And FA actually happened (we all know what FA stands for dont we!)

And that lad who refused a pen when Gary Neville chopped Andy Liddle in half. Mike Riley, wonder what happened to him :)

I think there was a yard of space wasnt there between Archdeacon and Gunnar Halle, and the Norwegian flopped down just inside the area, and I dont think any of his team mates appealed for it. Like in the England v Italy game recently, refs should take note of how much the players are or arent appealing when it comes to these sort of incidents.
I think Wilson and our club got a reply along the lines of.... "we sympathise of course but we cant do anything about it, the refs decision has to be final here etc.".

Every few years a "scandal" breaks out in the papers and revelations are made.
I truly believe that in a couple of years one will break about referees being paid huge amounts of money it shall we say "make certain decisions" and Barnsley games will feature be amongst the matches.

I found an article dating back to 2016 where Keith Hackett (Take that as you wish) was asked to rate all the premier league referees in terms of ability, for today’s ref, Mike Jones, The verdict was too fussy and inconsistent to be a premier league referee and should be demoted down the leagues. Obviously he hasn’t been but if he’s not been up to it at the top level in some peoples eyes why hasn’t anything been done sooner when reviewing the referees for each season?

He will still be the same referee so why do we have to suffer his fussy-ness and inconsistency

We shouldn’t in short, but this shows that firstly either the FA don’t care or aren’t bothered about the standard of refereeing as long as it doesn’t affect a small number of teams at the top end of the premier league table and secondly I had this conversation with my dad before the game yesterday coincidentally that poor performing referees shouldn’t be just sent down the leagues and forced upon us and others just because they’re not good enough, they should be taken out of the pool of available referees and reassessed and instructed on areas of the game they constantly are making critical errors on before being put back into the game.

    And from 2017:
I could go on about Mike Jones; putting it bluntly, he’s not good enough. He’s had his time and I think they might give him a job as a VAR next season
