This is a true story. He came to Barnsley in September 2013 to officially open the new local studies section in the Town Hall. I was sitting there unaware I was about to be blessed with the presence of royalty. Suddenly some doors opened and in walked about a dozen bigwigs including the mayor in his chains, Dan Jarvis and Steve Houghton. At the front was a bloke who looked like Prince Edward but I thought it was some minor royal like the ones they get to hand out the trophies at Wimbledon. He came up to me and asked me what I was doing. I told him and he moved on to annoy others. After he'd gone out a journalist asked me what we'd talked about. I asked her who he was. Surprised she said it was Prince Edward. I said I thought it looked a bit like him and she said he looked like he had twenty years earlier.

He really is as nondescript as that. If he wasn't a royal he'd be on disability benefits.

I once met someone who claimed to have done his marines training with him who said he was a bit of a knob with a superior attitude.

He then claimed he knew people who have served with Andrew and he was a sound bloke, but he always comes across as a knob as well to me.

Edward's marines training consisted of playing battleships and he failed.

I genuinely wouldn't recognise him. Just read his Wikipedia page, he sounds useless. Best education money can buy and he got CDD at A Level. He then somehow went to Cambridge (I wonder how he managed to get in...) and struggled to a 2:ii before flunking out of the marines.

He always comes across as a bit soppy, but I'd fancy his chances in a 50/50 challenge against George Moncur.

"He came up to me and asked me what I was doing?" And that's the other thing that is annoying about the Royals: they have the temerity to think that you should just drop what you are doing when they approach you and answer their questions straight away.
