Was it a penalty or not?

I was at the game but couldn't see.

And the video replays don't offer much really...

I sit in the West Stand and didn't see it as a penalty. My friend who sits in the East, said it was given for Pinnock pulling a shirt.

Moncur was pulling their player's shirt, and he fell a bit theatrically. Happens a dozen times in every game ever, and every now & again, a ref will decide to point to the spot. We were unluckily on the receiving end today. Had it happened down the other end, we'd have said "yep, certain pen, their lad had hold of Moncur's shirt".

Was it not given for a Bolton player just chucking himself on the floor?

It was a penalty. Light one though.

If that’s a penalty then there needs to be 5+ a game. But as usual there’s no consistency.

I saw nothing at the game and even with the highlights, I don’t think it was. I think the ref has given it because he missed the handball shout against Yiadom.

Moncur had hold of a Bolton players shirt for about a second, who then threw himself to the floor when the ball came in. Absolute nonsense of a penalty but the referee will have been looking for any excuse to give them one as he'd not given one for what looked like handball by Yiadom earlier on.

Obviously he didn't even it up for us after missing Wheater's shove on Moore.

I think the ref was correcting an earlier mistake - i.e. not giving one for handball by Yiadom

They weren't cheating. They used sportsmanship to their advantage to do whatever it took to try and help their situation.

Are you sure you mean sportsmanship?
"Sportsmanship is an aspiration or ethos that a sport or activity will be enjoyed for its own sake, with proper consideration for fairness, ethics, respect, and a sense of fellowship with one's competitors."
None of that applies to Bolton's approach to the game. Do you mean gamesmanship?
"The use of methods, especially in a sports contest, that are dubious or seemingly improper but not strictly illegal.
The technique or practice of manipulating people or events so as to gain an advantage or outwit one's opponents or competitors".

So now sportsmanship equates to cheating , polar opposites in my opinion

Gamesmanship (ie cheating). Sportsmanship had nothing to do with it.

Thank you for that. At least I was speaking sense for once :) After bringing up our poor record against them and predicting a draw, let's hope I make it a trifecta and we are out of relegation after the game in hand.
