All verbal, he was sat in the upper west & half time me & the kids always stretch our legs & as we were walking by he was getting some foul language aimed at him , when we got to the refreshment bar we were joined by a friend who told us he was getting full pelters , some will justify it, but to me its not on
That is an absolute disgrace. One of the best manager/head coaches we have ever had and he is not allowed to better himself? You wonder about the intelligence of some people who follow our club.
Unfortunately , as you know , it seems to go with the territory , you only have to listen to abuse players get when things are not going well & its not just at Oakwell , its every ground in the country. All players have family & friends at the matches & to be honest , I do not know how I would handle it if one of my lads was playing & taking abuse , I think I would probably stay away which is sad really
Actually, Neil Warnock is a master at handling this sort of stuff. He relishes going to Hillsborough!
He genuinely celebrated Gardner’s goal on Saturday. Fists clenched. Whatever the circumstances of him leaving, he’s still a fan.
I wouldn't condone any abuse especially if he is with his children. However to think it wouldn't happen would be naive.
It’s odd how much of a love-in we have always had with players like Mick McCarthy, and others. He did well for us and played a lot of games but then went to Maine Road for a better career. It worked out well for him didn’t it? Why then do people like Hecky and Danny Wilson get such abuse for being “traitors”? They are nothing of the kind - just professional football men who saw a better chance for financial security, and more. Perhaps going to Manchester is ok but going to Sheffield or Leeds isn’t.
I get the bigger club aspect, I don't get the finically secure part. Was he on a poor wage before do we think? I think we have to accept he made a footballing decsion not a financial one. Of course it's worse because it's a local rival, that is the very nature of football. If I said from our next 2 we will win 1 lose 1 which game would everyone rather win? I don't think it would even need asking to know the answer. He left us in a the middle of a relegation scrap to go to club he is on record of saying he hates. Didn't even deem the fans who had backed him through the good and the bad worthy of a goodbye when he left. Yes it's his proffesion and he made his choice as he saw best. But his standing at Oakwell will suffer because of it. People wrongly believed it was more than just a job to him. Probably because he said it was.
I don’t particularly agree that he was massively out of order to go, but even if I did, giving him abuse is out of order. Especially when he’s with his kids. He did well for us, he wasn’t properly backed when they sold all the team off, he had us comfortably outside the bottom three all year, he’s gone elsewhere. We’re now far from comfortable. Say what you like, but with the current players he never had chance to use, i believe he’d have got better results. Maybe everyone thinks that - and that is why they are so bitter about him going. I’m not to be honest. I can see why he went. This argument about him not being on a bad wage here is irrelevant, they’re paying him a load more there. Footballing not financial? No. Footballing AND financial. Isnt working out, they probably won’t give him a fair chance to make his own team either. That’s his lookout, he knew what he was taking on. I’m not particularly bothered whether he succeeds or not. I wish him no ill will - but I’m not desperate for him to succeed either. But if I saw him I’d not be aiming any abuse towards him. That’s just childish and brain dead.
I don't really care I was just pointing out the flip side of it. I hope they lose every single game wether it's Hecky in charge or not that hasn't changed for me. As for abuse, yes if it proper over the top nasty abuse. If it's just pantomime villain calling him a traitor then it's par for the course. It's football opposition players are heckled all the time.
He will have known what to expect if he came to Oakwell. So he should have known better than to subject his daughter to it. He probably thought he could hide behind her so took her so fans would go easier on him. He should have gone alone.
I have been told this morning on what I consider to be reliable authority that the Knasmullner signing occurred without any reference to Hecky. So it seems he may have already been out of favour before Leeds' approach. That, for me puts into context the vitriolic and unjustified insinuations that he was some sort of traitor. It also puts an interesting light on the club's claims to have been "shocked" by his departure. The plot thickens.
So , do you think its right for him to receive abuse, choose whether he is with family or on his own ?
Not at all. But he's not stupid. He's a bright man so will have known how some fans will have reacted to him and so subjecting his own daughter to that kind of atmosphere wasn't his wisest decision.
You can’t legislate for idiots, dreamboy3000. It doesn’t take much for some of our fans to react. I was walking down Grove Street towards Oakwell on Saturday when a Bolton fan who happened to be wearing a Bolton shirt was told “shut your f***ing mouth before I come over and kick the f**k out of you and your ‘mongoloid’ Dad.” Utterly ridiculous and completely uncalled for. PH got horrendous abuse at HT from a pathetic half cut minority. He’s a Barnsley fan who still lives in Barnsley. His children are Barnsley fans who are also schooled in Barnsley. There’s absolutely no reason why he shouldn’t attend any of our games if he’s so inclined. It’s those dishing out the abuse that need a long hard look at themselves, not PH.
