He'll be able to see first hand on Saturday how Leeds fans treat their team when they are losing, might change his mind
Hecky has been chasing Olly for quite a while. At the end of this season Hecky will be out of work and Leeds interest will have cooled because their new manager will prefer someone else.
Nixon said at the weekend that Leeds were in for McBurnie, Yiadom and Williams at the end of the season.
Wow it’s like they have had a tip off, whose their manager again? TBH I can’t see Ollie ending up there , far more likely somewhere like Villa,
Think where Swansea end up will determine where he ends up going. If they do down he would be perfect for them in this division.
As I've said before, stay up and McBurnie has to be the first name on our hit list. This is not "going crazy" to quote Paul Conway it's competing on a level playing field. Not too much to ask for I don't think, especially with the way that Wolves have brazenly cheated their way to promotion.
As a free transfer he's easily worth 20k a week on a three or four year contract. If a premiership club comes in or he signs for somebody for more than that then at least we can say we tried. But if he signs for them and it's because he's deemed out of our budget that will be a bitter pill to swallow.
Half the wage and I agree with you. 20k is silly money when what we need to do is establish ourselves and perform ok financially. Look at clubs like SW to see what happens when you throw silly money at players. There will be a time when we might need to look at paying 20k pw, and that’s when we are at about the level North End are at- pushing for playoffs but always just lacking 1-2 quality players to get the job done. Of course converse argument is he’d cost nothing to buy (and we couldn’t afford a player as good as him) so that’s offset the premium we paid him
He won"t be on a free, because of his age they would be allowed compensation & a Tribunal would sort that out but where McBurnie ends up will be down to how good is agent is, as there will be many wanting his signature , it will be name your price Ollie & let the free for all begin !
Tabloids have been known to print utter sh**e, lads. He’s not even our player and we’ve got absolutely no chance of securing his services on a permanent basis so I don’t know why anyone’s that bothered. Let’s just enjoy him whilst he’s here, a la Matty James, Danny Drinkwater et al.
Wednesday have players on double that. I think one million per year to have him in our squad is peanuts. Mamadou Nill cost almost that on his fee alone for this past season. 10k we would have no chance and if the owners with their cash haggled over half a million a year more, which was the difference between getting him and not getting him, I don't see supporters being happy.
The one place he won't be next season is Oakwell. That said, if he keeps us up I'll be eternally grateful. Potentially a premier league striker. Needs to bag 20 next season in the championship.
Fair enough. It’d be an immensely popular move, and would be a real statement of intent. However I’d want to see us move some deadwood and refine our team before we were to commit to a huge deal like that. Half a million quid is by no means a small amount of cash
Are you sure he'd cost compo? They got him off Bradford and I didn't think compo for a under 23 lad can happen at more than one club. He will go where he wants to go if he's a mind of his own. It would be a downer if we can't compete with mid table clubs in our own league (if we stay up), despite the ownership change. It would be a huge (not mas***e) statement of intent and after 18 months of rubbish, a much needed boost to the club. Then we can instead moan about how we've run out of the new away shirt at the open day
If Swansea offer him a contract , I believe they will be entitled to compensation but I think you are selling the lad short , at the minimum top end championship clubs will want him if not lower end premier , goalscorers are always in demand & always cost top dollar , with every goal he scores in a struggling side like ours , his stock will rise
That's a real shame, considering the amount of brass our new owners have. If we are still a championship club in May you would hope we make a big effort to keep him at Oakwell with a view to selling him on at a later date.
