It’s been a laugh. Asset stripping/penny pinching hasn’t worked because we didn’t suitably recruit. And appointing blokes because the once worked with Mourinho hasn’t worked. Some proper experience of running a football club in the building might help. I’ll reserve judgement on the new owners until they show the direction the intend to take out club in the summer.
Reckon the lad from St Mirren would have too. If we weren’t just interviewing to go through the process and had already offered it to Morais - rank amateur and don’t blame Ross from pulling out of the process.
But is that really what happened? I’ve seen enough of Scottish imports not to want anymore. Watkins excepted
What are you basing that on? Just curious like. Barring a few, our players aren’t good enough for the division. Individually or collectively.
I think it’s fairly clear what our failings are and I don’t just think it’s in one area. It’s overall rank bad running of our football club. I never thought appointing a marketing exec to run a football club was the right thing. And I don’t think not paying watkins, Scowen or Roberts what they were worth was the right thing. I personally think flogging Bree and Hourihane was sensible - not sure we got enough for them. But we should have kept the rest of the squad together and added to it. We gambled. And failed. And I think Hecky wanting away for a year or more really dragged our team down. Players development probably stalled. He’s proving so far not to be as good a coach as perhaps we or he thought. And I think whoever appointed Morais has dropped an almighty and alarming clanger. In summary this year has been a catalogue of ridiculous and baffling decisions. Coupled with some poor luck.
Agree with all of that. Selling Roberts and not trying to keep Scowen was the arrogance I refer to. We were convinced we could easily replace them with cheaper options. Football isn’t only about facts and figures; it’s not only about the cost of everything and the value of nothing
Spot on - Ganaye said Morais was always number one choice. Why did they interview others? I'd have gone with Cameron Toshack myself.
Totally agree. It still baffles me. And I was a huge fan of our previous owner. Doesn’t mean without fault though. I will reserve judgement on the new owners. I can only assume the appointment of Morais was Gautier and James and not theirs. Regroup in summer. We’ll all be gutted but most of us will be back. Wigan & Blackburn show how it’s done. We need to be even better.
I agree with everything apart from Morais, I honestly think if he stayed here 2 or 3 years he would leave us in a better position than when he took over, but he probably isn't gonna get that time.
Morais had been offered the job the week before the other interviews. He was the only one invited to matches. Toshack or Ross for me. But we’ll never know now. New manager for me - Morais doesn’t seem to have stayed anywhere more than a few months in any management job so imagine he’ll mutually go when we’re down.
Why would you have gone with him? GG is hardly likely to say anything other than Morais being our number one choice
Based on what? Genuine question as his management cv is shocking in terrible leagues, he has absolutely no pedigree and is hardly a bright young thing. His interviews have also made me cringe. Still would love to be proved wrong. Everyone has Barnsley’s best interest at heart. And none of us are right all the time.
The managers tactics might not suit everybody but he can only put them on the field, the soft or non tackles that have let the opposition through for soft goals time after time or players that couldn’t keep their composure and missed when it looked harder than scoring., that’s not the managers fault. We have seen game turning saves and goals against us that were harder chances than ones that we have blown.Thats not the managers fault either.
Simply because if our hopes rested on anyone to get out of this, I think they rested on McBurnie. It's just possible that we could have used him even better with a coach who must have known him inside out. I also think Toshack would have had a better understanding of our present predicament. But I have been known to be wrong!
Even if we could have got more out of McBurnie, which is doubtful given he has scored 8 goals, we still have a team that isn’t good enough often enough
