I’ve seen some Sunderland fans saying Coleman asked to leave as he is taking the Ipswich job. Don’t know if it’s true or not but that’s what some are saying.

Said on MOTD 2 he had been " released" from his contract along with his Assistant
Kit Symons. To me, that infers that it's a mutual arrangement and has Lenzo has said,
the rumour is he's lined up for the job at Portman Road.
Sunderland are in a real mess. Relegated, with an owner who has abandoned them and is
offering the Club to anyone interested for £1. Question is, with £180 million of "inherited" debt, that's
some job to take on for any new owner(s).

According to the BBC article Ellis Short has paid off the club's debt. £180 million up the swanny.

Why oh why would Ipswich want him? Terrible manager.

Although to be fair to him a little bit, the Sunderland job was always going to be a poisoned chalice.

Looks a joint decision. Doesn't appear to have the fight for that league, like he feels it's beneath him. Bit like Jack Lester asking to leave Chesterfield. Be another like that if Southampton go down, as I can't see Mark Hughes wanting to manage outside the top flight.

I'd give him a quid for it , make myself chief exec therefore an employee, pay myself a million quid a year then I'd sack myself after 5 years of hard toil and a big defeat to Guiseley .

Jack Lester resigned after being told to sack all his backroom staff, so told them they go so does he.

A board member might have been the owner was live on Radio Sheffield on Football Heaven saying Jack came to them and said he didn't see himself as the guy to get them back in the league.

Not what some of the other journalists were reporting, they wanted to retain him but not the backroom staff which put him in a difficult position

Mark Hughes is only contracted to the end of the season anyway, but I do take your point. It seems he'd only be offered a new deal if he keeps them up.

Coleman is a decent manager. Mick wanted out. Think he'll keep Ipswich up, but I think their days as a top flight club are over.

I am not sure about Coleman being a decent manager , he did well with Wales but at club level he has been ordinary & if he had got the gig here I would have been underwhelmed to say the least. To me , he seems to be another similar to Pardew who always appear to be on someone"s wanted list , but for the life of me I cannot understand why.

Nice bloke but an awful manager , he had Gareth Bale and Ramsey at his disposal and without them I doubt they’d have won a single game at the Euros . Its like Robson Kanu scored a superb goal and all of a sudden he was a great striker when in reality he’s poor !
