Clearly WELL over the line and without that technology I bet we would not have been awarded the goal. I don't think the linesman indicated a goal and the referee would have given Brentford the benefit of the doubt as it all happened so quickly. Great bit of technology that!
Example of great technology. Clear Yes/No decision. VAR though is a bloody joke. Will ruin football. Only time it should be used is if a goal is scored and they want to check for offside.
Linesman had no chance of seeing it. There were three bodies along his line of sight between him and the ball. Not sure ref could have been sure either. Very good bit of technology.
Ref seemed to be nowhere near it but the linesman should have had the best view. He needed the eyesight of a hawk, obviously, but clearly made no indication either way. Maybe that was deliberate because he knew the hawkeye decision was coming. Very impressed how that works by the way - the ref tapped his wrist device almost immediately and signalled the goal. Fantastic bit of kit.
Interestingly from my view in the West Upper I though it was in as soon as it came off the inside of the post - but I was looking over players not trying to look through them - Technology definitely helped as I doubt it would have been given if just left to the ref and linesman
I think the referee was tapping his wrist to tell the crowd and players why he was giving the goal rather than to ask his watch for confirmation, the watch vibrates or beeps automatically to tell him. The only change id make to the system is that I'd have it linked up to the big screens so it shows supporters where the ball is. The technology is there but the fa chose not to use it. I'd also look into extending it to alert the linesman as soon as the ball crosses the line for a throw-in or corner. It would allow them to focus their attention on offsides and watching the players
He'd need x-ray vision to see through our player stood on the line, their keeper stood on the line and their player stood on the line. There's just no way he could have seen it.
I was convinced it wasn't a goal - and McBurnie had bluffed the ref by celebrating so enthusiastically - the rest of the team took some time to be convinced. (although the Brentford players not complaining was a positive sign) I hadn't realised hawkeye was a permanent fixture at oakwell - glad it is.
I didn't know hawkeye was in at Oakwell either, or even the Championship in general. I just assumed linesman had given it. The technology really is fantastic and is a genuine help to the game, unlike VAR.
Its been in all season but we couldnt use it for ine game because our floodlights werent up to dtandard so new lighting rigs were added onto the stands behind the goals.
I was in Ponty just left of the post nearest the west stand and about 3/4 way up. I wasn’t sure it had gone in, if ref had played on I wouldn’t have complained at the time - great use of technology.
