No it doesn’t at all. You’ve got the wrong end of the stick. My arguments around the whole ‘you weren’t there so shouldn’t comment’ idea. I just think it’s a load of nonsense.

If that was the case then no one would be able to comment on anything before their time.

If for example we’ve got a 50 year old Barnsley fan on here who was a doctor, none of his family worked in the pits & he wasn’t effected by the strike the argument seems to be that he can shout scab as he lived through it.

You could then have a 20 year old fan who’s Dad, Uncle’s, Grandparents were all effected by the strike, some could’ve ended up with alcohol issues, divorced, mental health issues etc but this 20 year old apparently can’t chant scab because he didn’t live through it even though it may have messed his family up for generations.

There’s 3 views I can see & understand, one, the fan genuinely hurt who wants to chant at Forest fans to get at them for what he went through, two, the ones who just see it as a bit of nothing like chanting dee dahs & pretty much just do it to create an atmosphere & then lastly the fans who just want us to stop chanting it for good.

I understand all them 3 views, I just don’t get the ‘you didn’t live through it’ argument, it doesn’t make any sense.

On the other hand, I was there and I do grasp it. I've been trying not to get involved in a ding dong this year, but someone always says something which is like a red rag to a bull. The Nottinghamshire area undermined TWO strikes - 1926 and 1984. They made the dispute longer, more arduous and damaging, and ultimately resulted in its loss. I'll never forget what their selfishness did to my family and others. Those who don't want 'Scab' shouted fall into two categories. 1. Those that had no connection to the mining industry and don't understand the emotions involved and 2. Those that did Scab or had family who did. I'm glad it's still touching a nerve. Long may it continue.

Yes, my mates at Unite are behind it.

I really don't give a **** about who is entitled to chant or not. I just like chants that are funny & relevant to the situation (e.g. "Sheff Utd, you're keeping us up", to their earlier repost). I think it's great young people should be aware of the history, but I'm not sure the chanting does a lot for that.
It's each to their own. I feel strongly about Thatcher & Orgreave (and Hillsborough too). I'm just not sure many in the away end at Forest "get it", as they are unlikely to remember the times, other than those over 50. Nottinghamshire suffered as much as anywhere under the Tory government in the long run. Simple put-downs are boring after a bit.

Derbyshire & Leicestershire miners also scabbed but their football teams/fans seem to be immune from the "scab" chants.
Also there were lots of Notts miners who stayed with the NUM and didn't join the UDM.
I feel sorry for these ex-miners because they get it from both sides.

The majority in North Derbyshire supported the strike. The Leicestershire coalfield was very small, around 2,500 miners.

No they don’t mate some of them love it when the likes of Newcastle,Sunderland Cardiff etc( not only us ) go to the City ground .
At one point some were telling me at the Durham miners gala that they used to join in but give over when it got really tasty once . In fact they used to go in the Sheff Wednesday end when they visited and chanted with them . (Wouldn’t go in Leeds end though even though they chanted it )
No stain on them because the others scabbed even though they are Forrest fans themselves as Alan said (one of the strikers ) I’ve nothing to be ashamed of I stood firm . Great words imo
Chesterfield v Mansfield is also tasty on the scab calling I’m told

The majority of Lancashire's 7,500 miners were on strike to start with, but only 10% stayed out to the end.

Various googled sources. 83% of Yorkshire's 56,000 miners stayed out on strike and 93% of 21,000 in South Wales.

if it hadnt been for the under dame Margaret ( spit ) regime the strike would have seen a different outcome.. for those who say Scargill should have held a ballot hed already won the vote to call strike action from the national executive previously ..Silver birch and the police were all part of thatchers plans to clear the decks of the N U M ..the NUM being the only power that stood in her way of achieving her aim..we all know the aftermath of her policy's ..we are seeing her legacy today..They never mention her interests in the South African coal mines that brought wealth to her family once we started importing more coal.. The scabs from Nottingham deserve all they get and for me long may it continue...I never worked at the pit family and friends did but i saw and lived through Thatchers police state, i also felt the physical strong arm of the London met who were a law un to themselves with their bully boy tactics..The title of scabs will run hopefully as long as the title monkey hangers of Hartlepool does ...Might i also point out Not only did the Under Dame Margaret regime ( spits again) prolong the strike by their actions they in fact allowed her to break up communities ruin lives put people in debt put folk out of work caused poverty to name a few by refusing to stand shoulder to shoulder with the proud brave men who did strike..shame on them all ..the ironic thing is once shed beaten the Yorkshire boys and the supporting cast she turned on the very folk who she conned and closed their pits too ..not only were they scabs they were fools too

In all seriousness, I don't get why we didn't go in for him when he was out of favour at Bristol city. If nothing else just to stop him being able to score against us!

Great post. What about chanting at Nottingham Forest fans in 2018? For me I agree with that & I want justice for illegal acts by South Yorkshire Police at Orgreave. The chanting is just not where I'm at.
