I think you overestimate L1. The Rotherham side that went down were far far worse they then sold their best player and still made the play offs easily enough. Bradshaw and moore will make a good L1 partnership. You would expect 40 goals from them which is a great start. Isgrove, Hammill, McCarthy are all proven top quality L1 players as is Davies if he can regain his confidence

Callum elder one of the worst ever Reds players has just been promoted after playing a starring role.

    Points I agree with.
    Points I don’t agree with.
If this is the worst squad you've seen - then you have a very short memory.
    Betsy team was far worse.
    Flitcroft team was far worse.

We need a coach to be appointed now (hopefully sooner rather than later) who can organise...it has been severely lacking ALL season...regardless of the playing staff.
Please please suits dont dont screw up................AGAIN.....please!!

    *nods*

I said last Summer when folk were claiming Liam Lindsay was the new John Stones & that we'd only need a few weeks to gel the latest batch of recruits before making another stab at the play offs & Sam Winnall was never that good anyway & Williams was better than Scowen & we only needed 3 strikers & who needs wingers anyway etc etc that us staying up this season would be a miracle. An utter, utter miracle. You could hear that in Hecky's press conferences & if anyone needs any other idea why he jumped ship when he did then you're a bit daft.

At many points today when we still had a chance I almost didn't want us to. If we'd have stayed up then there's a chance those in charge could've spun it as a successful season, a season where the target had been achieved & now we could build. They'd have taken lots of credit for being incredibly lucky & I would've been embarrassed if we'd have stayed up on 41 points. Simple fact is we've made some catastrophic decisions in the last 2 years - I genuinely can't remember a good one that's been made by the Club since the recruitment for the 16/17 season. Anyone?

Gross mismanagement that everybody involved then & now needs to take a long look at because there's plenty of chance that we could become one of those basket case clubs IMHO if we don't get the next appointment right for that league.

PS - feel for Morais. Should've been sacked after half a dozen games max when it was clear he was completely out of his depth. My worry now is, as I say above, who those in charge (of which I only know of GG and a load of absent directors) pick next. Big test.

RE Elder - goes to prove Jay's point. Team players in a **** team look ****. Remember the squad he came into last year.

And on Rotherham, they brought in someone who knew the club & built a system that worked. They replaced Moore with a similar type of player in Smith and have done well. It all comes down to who we bring in because this squad is nowhere near as good as people are making out.

Lots of work to be done.

A forward 2 central midfielders a decent manager and we will be fine. Replacements for Bradshaw and Hammill if as rumoured they leave. Some pace and we will be fine. I’m not saying the squad is brilliant but certainly a good L1 squad. Light years ahead of last seasons Rotherham. Elder imo is a ***** Championship player but a good L1 player ( like a lot of our team) but we shall see.

    Again, I'm struggling to agree.

I think we're ok for GK & centre backs but full backs we're light (I imagine Cavare & Pinilos will leave) leaving McCarthy & Fryers. I don't think Fryers will ever be a footballer but expect McCarthy to start the season.

Central midfield we've nothing & probably need 2 if not 3 that can tackle (McGeehan a big hope & Potts too but again, not sure good enough). Out wide we've got Isgrove & Hedges if played plus I expect Thiam to leave & probably Bradshaw so another 3 strikers needed. That's without Mowatt/Mallan/Moncur debate & one of them having to leave.

We need a minimum of 10 I reckon - again, big overhaul to come & it needs the right man & right ones brought in.

If players leave than aye. Most are on long term contracts so that’s our choice. Our squad as it stands doesn’t need 10. I agree about Fryers. Can’t see Cavare leaving or anyone taking either Pinillos or Thiam off our hands.

The Flitcroft/Wilson side was by far and away a worse side that this current crop. Imo.we have some great league one players and with a decent manager who knows league one I think we will be okay.

This squad is dog ****. I'll happily take a bet with anyone that thinks this is a "good league one squad" that, without significant investment, we'll be in the bottom half of League One this time next season.

Some of you have short memories.

    Have to disagree there.
Strike force was Sheron, Dyer, Fallon (admittedly a kid then and not ready) & Rankin.
We had a lot of players that underachieved for one reason or another, like Lumsden & a hot head in Chris Morgan at the back.
One or two coming to the end of their careeers, like Barnard & Steve Chettle who would still stroll into our current team.
I think Spackman is the worst Barnsley manager in our history though. His CV looked great, but was hopeless (Morais?),
Steve Parkin wasn't much better... They got 7 more points than we managed this season.

Agreed, our best 3 players won’t be here next season. Yids is an accomplished right back anc no doubt will be at L@@ds. Gardner has had his detractors but since Williams left has been a revelation for me and is our best midfielder, he’ll be back at Villa, and Mcbernie will be playing in the Championship as well. Plenty of work to do to replace those, plus a decent keeper .
