Well perosnally I objected to that as well. it sure if the club did at the time with the mess that was going on and I suppose that would be the difference as to why it happened.
The whole AFC thing was ridiculous and a very poor move.

So was it the previous regime that lodged the objection with the FA?
Genuinely asking it's not something I followed.

The previous regime lodged an objection over them calling themselves Barnsley Town originally and Shaw Lane applied to become afc Barnsley last December but I'm not sure wheb we launched our objection

See I didn't know that, you are right it's very hypocritical considering the past.
Going forward the current owners could not be accused of the same.

To be fair, in the interest of balance the ‘original’ afc Barnsley was founded when Barnsley FC was in real danger of disappearing altogether, as a new club for Barnsley fans. It disappeared pretty quickly when it was clearly unneeded. As I recall PC funded it for a while (it was setup before he was involved though) when Doyle was being unnecessarily awkward, but when he took over BFC proper, he said they could carry on using the academy facilities but had to be self sufficient, at which point they folded. It was never intended to be a competitor or alternative I don’t think. More a replacement if the worst happened.

Shaw Lane wanting to change their name is altogether different.

I don’t know Craig Wood or much about him, but he comes across as an odious individual, bit of a pillock. He clearly has a strong dislike of Barnsley FC, and this is to me a clear attempt to get one over on BFC and draw attention to himself and his club.

Regardless of where you put the fc or afc, you can’t have two clubs called ‘Barnsley’. I think it’s right the club objected. It was also right to object to Barnsley Town when they suggested that, as wood knows very well that we refer to the team as ‘tarn’, and he was after a reaction then too.

He’s trying to make out the big club are bullying him. None of it. Crack on Craig, you’ve had a lot of success. We know you’re a Wednesday fan, why not call yourself Barnsley Wednesday?

Probably because Sheffield Wednesday would object, so that doesn’t fit the agenda.

If there were any sensible suggestions (he wants to keep afc due to the history with aquaforce) - he’d have success i’m sure. We can’t have a monopoly over Barnsley as a name.

AFC Barnsley Borough, AFC North Barnsley, AFC Barnsley Northern, AFC Barnsley United, AFC Barnsley Wanderers. Owt, Rovers maybe.

He won’t do it. It’s not just about positioning his club, he’s trying it on.

I agree with the comments about Craig Wood and his tweet yesterday was odious. But to be fair there are already in existence AFC Liverpool, AFC Blackpool and AFC Mansfield.

If he’s been happily tweeting about our relegation, then I hope he gets the replies he deserves. Didn’t he say he wanted closer working links with BFC? If that’s the case then it makes him look a proper dick then.

Hope he enjoys his karma next season as his team continue to play in front of a hundred and odd.
I've no problem with other non league clubs in and around Barnsley but from all I've heard Shaw Lane have ambitions to be hostile to BFC in whatever small way they can aspire to.
