Is it right we are not allowed to question st Pats legacy on here now? Because let’s face it, it’s not a very good legacy is it? 2 relegations in 5 years, a scandalous selling of the Crown Jewels in January 2017 a massive under investment of playing and support staff and a crumbling stadium, no wonder Hecky walked away.
What’s libellous about stating the facts of a shambolic running of a football club? Manager after manager over the last decade and half have said we’re run worse than non league sides.
Well they would wouldn’t they ? Blame their failures on others ,it’s for their agents to work on the next club “it wasnt his fault “
Oh my goodness. Do you honestly believe The club has been run well? Every good side we’ve had has been sytamticly stripped, every time we get ourselves in a good position, Robbins Hill and now Hecky have all had a good side stripped for profit.
Shambolic really? Where were we financially when PC took over and where are we now financially. Without getting into the ‘spreadsheet’ debate, there is no way this club is in a shambles. Mistakes have been made and of course we have now been relegated, but I’m looking forward with interest to the next chapter for our club. Before I get the ‘prepare to be disappointed’ type replies I’m not making any predictions. I just can’t see the owners making the same mistake as the last coaching appointment/s. I’m certainly not going to wallow in the disappointment of relegation all summer that’s for sure.
Unfortunately now in this day and age, an owner has to pump money in to be competitive. Patrick didn't want to do that to the extent of other clubs, and the face of football has changed a lot since he stepped in. Saying that, I think selling your best players is a huge gamble and obviously we are now paying the price, but realistically do you think the likes of Mawson, Hourihane, Winnall didn't want to leave to further their careers??? Agents and players have huge say now and clubs are held at ransom. I admire Patrick for not bowing to that and putting the club at risk á la Sunderland (imagine if those debts hadn't been cleared). Now our owners have more funds at their disposal, i'm hoping the days of asset stripping won't be as devastating and we can stand up to it.
its easy to slag off a dead man who cannot answer back I guess... the same guy that had he not dug deep we would perhaps not have had the Wembley trips.....but would more than likely be extinct.... and maybe now be trying to do a climb back through the depths of the pyramid. I am not saying the club was run well or run badly... but all I know is that its alive and kicking.... and that's down to that dead man that you are now slamming into. I hope your parents are very proud of you.
i dont think its censorship .. i think most were up in arms of late at the timing of a certain posters thread..as some one said earlier last week ,,most agree that a lack of funding caused the latest demise and the role PC played in it.. that said the new owners must shoulder some of that blame for their failed January transfer window...and the poor employment of the last manager ...No one can blame Pat Cryne for talking care of his families financial future knowing he was on borrowed time regarding his health and then his passing. ( In one sense the man should be applauded for his actions, we in his position would no doubt do the same ..securing families future before any football club knowing that a sale was going to take place) It was common agreement that the crown jewels and the the top six rug was pulled from under the feet of PH at the time, due to lack of funds or if true Patricks refusal to throw more money at it instead choosing to safe guard his investment ....Hindsight is a marvelous thing .... Id say what gets up most peoples noses are the foul abusive posts that are rude in content and others that are just timed wrong... Sitting on the fence....No.... whilst its easy to criticize i wasn't stood in his shoes hadn't life changing situations or decisions to deal with..that said a big part of me wishes he had gone for it and i honestly believe ( that word again ) he would have seen his last dream materialized ..dreams that saw .....Those mighty Reds back in the premiership
As long as its an opinion about football then IMO that’s ok. I haven’t seen anything libellous on here. My thoughts about Patrick are these: He did a fantastic job saving the club and should be forever remembered for that. He also did a fantastic job in finding us these new owners that I’m sure will eventually prove to be the makings of the club. He had his heart and soul in Barnsley and he had his feet firmly on the ground - as such I wish he was still a director of the club. My only annoyance with Patrick is that he held onto the club for 10 years or more longer than he should have. He told us a couple of years after buying the club that he wanted to sell on - but he didn’t find a buyer. He knew he didn’t have the money to compete but he kept hold of the club - consequently in those years we didn’t progress and we found ourselves bouncing from lower Championship to League 1. He was partly responsible for where we are now - but he was not solely responsible - he did leave us with the most expensive players under his time as owner. Players in my view that should have been nowhere near the relegation zone. I think this is a fair judgement - and I’m sure comments and opinions like these are not libellous.
Back then, when we went into administration, a few hundred thousand in debt to the bank, but with land assets by far in excess of that. Plus owned our own stadium. Now, no land assets, we don't own our own stadium and I guess we'll have to wait until the next accounts are filed with companies house before we know the financial assets. Often the money used to buy a company is added to the debts of that company. No idea if the new owners have done that or not, I guess we'll have to wait and see.
I was under the impression that Patrick owned half of it all ? so surely the new guys subsequently do.
Doesn't the buyer need to purchase around 98% of the shares for that to happen...or is that just PLC's?
If they've bought it from him, yes. I don't know for sure if they have. But even if they have, they own it not the club. I'm sure between them they also own £millions (maybe £billions) of other property around the world. Oakwell isn't any more the club's than any of that.
