Can anyone cite the actual FA regulations? I’m interested to see if this extends beyond a civil IP dispute.
A Club competing in any one of the Premier League, the EFL, the National League, the Southern Football League, the Isthmian League and the Northern Premier League shall not be permitted to change its playing name (i.e. the name under which the Club competes in a Competition), as recorded on Form “A”, save with the prior written permission of Council. Any application for a change of playing name must be received by The Association on or before 31 December in a playing season in order for it to be considered by Council for adoption in the following playing season. Council will use its absolute discretion in deciding whether to approve a change in a Club’s playing name
Didn’t think he had any influence on the FA given the no action over the Morgan and Millwall incidents.
Is that it? All that translates to is applying for FA Council approval. So it’s clearky on intellectual property grounds that BFC are holding steadfast as Shaw Lane aren’t in breach nor seeking to breach FA regulations, from what you’ve posted. Seems an absolute overkill, in my opinion.
Why does anyone here give a **** about Shaw Lane's name? There's plenty of issues concerning our own club to concentrate on.
I personally felt that it would be beneficial to have two clubs tied in name to the town. I thought it could be excellent from a marketing point of view for SLA but also beneficial for us from a feeder/parent point of view as we would get first pick on any talent plus being able to farm our young players out on loan within the town instead of further afield, i.e. benefit our own, etc. I’m not particularly bothered who their chairman/owner supports. They play in Barnsley and bring revenue into the borough.
The ***** needs to get a life seriously. He’s a **** owner of a **** team that’s in a **** league, that has a **** ground and has **** players. Wouldn’t pay to watch that comedy club if I were offered a golden pig.
**** me, the way people are carrying on over one tweet is incredible. The lad took a bit of pleasure in our relegation because we've blocked several attempts for his football team to be renamed to match the town he's in. I've read on here that people want his business to go under, want him to get hit by a bus, and want his house to get burgled. All because he laughed at us getting relegated. Get a ******* grip of yourselves. Some of the **** that has been directed at him because he used to watch Wednesday is disgusting quite frankly. Ive no connection to Shaw Lane, I couldn't care less whether they succeed or not, but to wish ill on someone because they've said something you don't like is idiotic.
So you are banning people and asking people to leave for saying things about our former owner that you do not like. And in the next breath doing the same thing yourself to owners of other businesses. telling people what they should and shouldn’t be doing in there spare time And asking people to ruin someone’s live or livelihood . over what ,some kind of pathetic pettiness You should be throughly ashamed of yourself.
I totally agree Archie. Ive no real interest in his clubs results, but the lads worked hard and done well for himself and because of this decided to form a football team, which lets not forget apart from the main saturday team runs loads of kids and youth football age groups too which is fantastic for kids to have a well run outlet to play their football in our area. That for me deserves some respect. Yes he supports Wednesday, and yes he had a giggle when we went down (all self inflicted). But would we have pissed ourselves too if weds went down, course we would. I live in the Elsecar area and its wick wi Wednesday fans and the majority were happy to see us relegated but thats largely because we gave it large when they failed in the play offs last 2 years. Its just football rivalry, lets stop being precious and crack on with whats important...the super reds.
I’ve got no issue with him, I’m happy to see anyone putting money into football especially locally. I think it’d be brilliant to have a local team high up in non-league who we could loan young players to whilst keeping a close eye on them & still having them train with us & use our facilities / medical team.
So everyone else is pathetic then, not the person who apparrently gleefully tweeted about our relegation then claims it’s not against the fans. Fans who take umbrage are pathetic but not the tweeter eh? Defend him all you want but the hypricosy is unbelievably obvious. As I said earlier, reap what you sow.
Wishing someone loses their livelihood because they took pleasure in Barnsley getting relegated is beyond pathetic if you ask me. Anyone who says that they've never taken pleasure in a football team being relegated are being hypocrites if you ask me. I took great pleasure in the day Sheffield United were relegated to League 1, and Leeds, and Wednesday for that matter. It's a game of football at the end of the day.
I agree that Barnsley FC don't own the name of the town, there are loads of places with more than one football team. I would like to know what the Athersley Rec stalwarts especially Pete Goodlad thought about the "ground share" though as it sounds more like they've taken over.
Yes it is very pathetic. I coach one of the sides at Fev lions, I’d be disgusted if Fev Rovers had the same attitude towards us as BFC have towards shaw lane and if some fans of Rovers carried on about us in the same way.
I honestly don't see what the club did wrong by moving to protect themselves from another club taking the "Barnsley" name, and thus the possibility of diluting their potential fan base. I know I would do the same if I owned the club. If the FA told me to ******** and said Shaw Lane could take a name like "AFC Barnsley", then fair enough. But they obviously saw enough in the clubs argument to side with them. And as for the working relationship, it could still be developed if Shaw Lane keep their name. That is unless the powers that be at BFC see something in their set up and management they don't like...
My comments are about his tweet, then saying it’s nothing personal towards the fans. Load of ******. He knew full well most fans would be feeling down and pissed off, yet he choose to tweet those comments. He can’t be a very bright person if he didn’t expect Any come- back from that.
