But would we not have to wait for the manager/head coach to be appointed first? Would they not get a say in it
I think they're normally sorted out and announced shortly after the season ends.It may be different this year.I don't know.
We don’t hear enough from the club. But then again we never have - exception being when Ben Mansford was there.
I thought we had .... Mills , Yids , Townsend , Walton , Hammill contracts expiring , everybody else contracted .
I seem to remember at the end of one season when we didn't have a manager, the club released experienced players like Jon Nixon, Kenny Brown, Sam Yates, Neil Warnock, Graham Collier. About a month or so later, we appointed Allan Clarke as player/manager. Blimey, it was 'only' forty years ago!
Last season we released our retained list 3 days after our last game. Surprised we haven’t had anything at all following Sunday from the club.
I remember it well. The first coming of Allan Clarke was probably the most seismic event up to then in the history of Barnsley Football Club. There were some real lightweights on the released list there. Kenny Brown - a trier but no physique for the rough and tumble of the Fourth Division. Jon Nixon, Graham Collier....pffftt. And people complain these days that we have the likes of George Moncur and the rest on board. I would imagine that most of those who do complain were not around to see our 1960s/70s efforts. Apart from the brief Thomas/Evans era they were very dark days. We'll never sink that low again.
There is no way they will publish a retained list until we appoint a new coach is there.? Once the new guy is in place, he will run the rule over the players and let the management know who he wants to keep. If the new Coach turns out to be Simon Grayson, his assistant and one of our former players Glyn Snodin would also probably be involved in the selection process.
I can’t imagine he’s going to wait till they all come back off holiday. I would imagine the club have a fair idea of who will be leaving. Mainly be out of contract players. Others would leave at a later date if we agree to pay up contacts to release them. We know for a fact Yiadom & Hammill are more than likely leaving etc.
but what if Alan Nixon is correct and we already have someone as Morais was finished whether we won or not on Sunday. if he's correct as per his Twitter postings then maybe the new man has already decided who he does or doesn't want
Think it would be better if we waited for the new gaffer to decide who he does and doesn’t want. I’ve heard that Mills and Townsend aren’t wanted by the big chiefs but that’s just your normal social media rumours.
We could conceivably announce the retained list and simply hold off on confirming those under contract players who are available for transfer.
And we’ve offered several terms to Yiadom already, but he’s turned them down - Hudds draw tonight might be pivotal for him. Just leaves Hammill and Walton. I expect Walton to be offered terms quickly without a manager. Hammill might be offered a year at reduced terms - but that’s only a guess. The rest will be assessed by new manager. Also fair to expect that relegation clauses will allow for reduced wages but also the right to seek another club if a fee is agreed. So there is a chance some who are contracted might go anyway for better money elsewhere - despite the club maybe not wanting to part with them.
Yiadom can go for me, hasn’t been bothered since Huddersfield showed interest and I remember him going on Sky Sports to try and push it so yeah, he can go. Would love to see Hammill and Walton stay, I don’t need to go into how Hammill bleeds BFC just because keeping him is an absolute no brainer. I think young Walton did well especially since he was thrust into the side so late in the season with ridiculous pressure to go with it but I think the lad handled it magnificently. Definitely a new keeper needed though.
Agree - but to be fair I’d be happy with Davies and Walton. Davies has had a poor season - most of squad has. Prior to that he’s been a good keeper. With Walton, it looks like we’ve got it covered next season.
I really don’t understand where this ‘can’t be bothered’ stuff has come from. Of course he has been bothered. Not only has he been bothered but he’s one of our best players and has been one of our most consistent performers throughout the campaign. People get upset because he wants to move on. I don’t recall anyone questioning Yiadom or the club’s decision to sign him when he did the same at Barnet. He has been an excellent player for the Reds and I wish him all the best.
