with the way we buy/pay for things theses days, Sky TV, Broadband, Mobile Phones, Energy Bills, and so on we all seem happy to get into contracts to make things cheaper. So my question is this if BFC offered you 36 payments of £25 a month for 3 season tickets meaning you’d be paying £300 a season but be tied into a three year contract with 36 monthly payments would you take them up on it, and do you think it’s a good idea? .
Think it’s a great idea, club gets commitment from fans and in return fans get a saving, winners all around
That's a good question. I'd take it. It'd be guaranteed income for the club too, so they know what budgets they're working off, to an extent. Especially now we're unlikely to go up to the prem and hit the financial jackpot in that timeframe.
Not sure it’s in the clubs best interests to do this. Unlike a mobile phone provider there’s a much greater loyalty to a football club. Given the majority of season ticket holders renew season after season regardless I think they’d just lose money.
My phone, TV and utility contracts haven't stayed "intact". My phone contract has gone up £2 a month about 6 months into our "agreement", Sky put their prices up a couple of times a year and gas/electricity go up all the time without rhyme or rhythm. The way these contracts are worded, there would be nothing stoping the club signing you up for 3 years and banging £100 a year on the price year on year. Actually, "intact" may be the wrong term. It's more like they ere moving the goal posts...
Yeah but making it into affordable monthly payments over the year, might get you more season ticket sales. A lot of people in Barnsley live pay packet to pay packet and find it really hard to save £300 plus for a season ticket off their own back, this way it’ll be just another bill they have to budget for monthly and maybe more appealing to people, it may not ether that’s why I asked the question.
It’s another good, imaginative approach to marketing the club and putting bums on seats, but again, the club lack any sort of vision in this regard. There aren’t many things I’ve ever criticised the club for, but this is an area where we come up laughably short time and time again. They seem happy to just target the same, regular season-ticket base year after year, without really considering what might happen if they stop going. Short-sighted and completely out of touch.
100 percent agree. The new owners have stated they want to grow the club. Getting extra fans through the gates is a major factor in doing so and unlike the previous owner they have the financial clout to take a short term revenue loss in enticing more fans in. Unlike some others I don't believe there's a huge untapped market in our area but I do think there's three or four thousand occasional attendees that could be brought in on a more regular basis given the right pricing of tickets.
Think about this, already bought mine but suggesting slightly different if they did it over 10mths on a pay as you go £35 per month but you have the flexibility to cancel if you sign up before season starts. Get bums on seats from August might tempt a few who maybe only go to the occasional match.
Agree they could but pass/card that gets u in ground would then become invalid n entry thru turnstiles would be declined also you would lose the option to keep on as pay as you go similar to a mobile phone payg. No credit no calls. Etc etc if you miss paying a month it would just become a access card that you top up and gain access at full gate amount but the club would have your details to bombard you with offers deals via email as pay on gate club got no idea who you are..
And because people are paying monthly you’re not restricted as to when you start selling, people could start the 3 year cycle at any point in theory, October 2018 to October 2021 and so on . Season tickets would then be on sale all year round, offering good savings to loyal fans, and fans showing long term commitment to the club. Then you can also do the early bird offer in April as normal for those wanting to continue as we do now .
Good idea , the only down side would be the Rangers scenario where the club borrows on future ticket sales then pocket the money , but unlikely with the current big money ownership
I wouldn't want that to happen. It'd require some proper prudent financial management & restraint & I reckon it'd come back and bite us in the arse.
