IMO AM have never made a bad album and Turner is THE lyricist of his generation. However some people still want Turner to be writing songs about wagging English and Science and getting chased by coppers even though he is now in his thirties. You can tell from every album since their first that the band are maturing and getting better.
Not the biggest AM fan, but I've heard 3 songs this morning on the Radio. Of those, I thought two were David Bowie tracks I'd not heard before until they announced who it was at the end.
I personally just wanted their music to remain upbeat, for them to chuck in a few decent guitar riffs/drum beats here and there and not turn into the dreary, monotonous bores they've become. But we don't always get what we want and their new album will be received well by those who like their music to be sleep-inducing.
Sounds like Lift Music on first listen - going to grind it out with several listens - maybe a grower!
No point trying to recreate what has already been made, otherwise it would all just sound the same. Kudos to them for branching out and making something different. A big problem these days with Albums is people don’t listen to them more than once without giving them chance to grow on you.
Sounds OK to me. Good lyrics. DJing in Crewe tonight & tomorrow playing a 2 day festival put on by Kirk Brandon. It is going to be noisy, very dark 80's stuff & ska. Hopefully I will come out alive. DJ set is midnight till 3-ish...
I've only heard the Tranquility Base song but it sounded like La femme d'argent by Air, with overtures of David Bowie. Nice enough.
No mate, the set list from the American gigs is a mix of the last 5 albums and 2/3 off the new album, far as I've seen it's; Four out of Five, She Looks like Fun and One Point Perspective been played the most.
Excellent. Wouldn’t be upset either way to be honest, massive fan of the vast majority of their back catalogue.
While I'm not overly keen on the newer stuff, its certainly not as bad as some making out and for me there's very few bands who have put out such consistently good music IMO
It's a record that's made me an incredibly happy bunny. Frankly, if you expect them to churn out Radio One friendly catchy anthems forever you wanna stick to Kings of Leon. It's vindicated my love for them and everything they're about in that one of if not the biggest band in the world have had the balls to make it. Do a bit of digging into Mr Turner's influences and it'll all make sense. Axelrod, Gainsbourg, Nino Ferrer.
They're not crap but they were always wildly overrated. NME needed a new "saviour" and it was massive over-hype as always with them.
Same. The first two albums had on great songs they didn't even release as singles that radio played such as Mardy Bum. Oasis had the same with the WTSMG album. Think since with their moodier sound they have lived off earlier success. Ticket prices for their next tour are ridiculous.
