Says he's gutted that he wasn't able to help to keep the Reds in the Championship. Me and him both. If only the paperwork had been correct the first time we tried to sign him. Convinced, if we had, we probably might have survived. https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/foo...rnie-devastated-by-barnsley-descent-1-9160393
We would have still gone down. He'd have still have only banged them in for half a season but instead it would have been the first half, before he was recalled in January and sent to a bigger club.
"Probably might"?? You're convinced we probably might have stayed up?? What does it take to convince you of something with certainty then?
Agree with this, there's no way they'd have let him stay with us for the second half of the season had he scored a large number of goals up to January.
Yeah not a chance. We couldn't hang on to Harvey Barnes because Leicester thought putting him back in kids football was better for his development. If MCB had got 10-15 goals in the first half of the season, we would have lost him back to Swansea at first January opportunity. He'd have ended up probably playing for Colin, so he didn't have to waste five million on Medine with his Mamadou Nill scoring record for them.
The contract he signed on the 31st August 2017, stipulated he would remain at Barnsley until the last game in May 2018. Unfortunately he was flat hunting in Leeds when Heckingbottom had to call him to let him know there was a problem and he was to return to Swansea. There is no evidence to prove that had he started scoring early on, he would have been recalled and sent elsewhere, so it's quite realistic to think we might of got two or three more points from games he could have played in, which would have ensured our safety.
Wasnt Ollie's attitude also called into question though in some of those end of season games, where he was just walking about with his head down even more than his socks. Yes hes been a great loan signing and his goals almost kept us up, and maybe he was getting peed off at being played out of position.
To be fair he was spewing his ring out just after half time at Derby and carried on playing so unless he’d been on the piss the night before I think we can add him to Hammill and Walton on the ‘excused’ list.
Thats the question that we can and usually will keep asking though isnt it about 'loan' players, who don't have our best interests at heart beyond that particular season. We used the loan market superbly with a player like Ash Fletcher in the promotion season, but theres also been many bad loan signings who havent been good enough. And will Ollie now want to stay in the Champship with relegated Swansea, and seriously is he really good enough for the Premship ?.
Is that what happened. Couldn’t work out what was wrong from where I sat. He also started the game after being made to go over to the sidelines to have something checked and had to be called on about 5 seconds into the game. Reckon is was playing with either a knock or a minor illness. Although we never got an interview from one single player after the game so who knows what went on really.
