Which Premeir / championship teams are or will be looking for a manager and would they take Big Mick.

Leeds Hecky may get another half of a season.
    West Brom maybe.
    QPR I can't see it.
Bristol city or Sheff utd may change managers but can't see him at either,
I wouldn't think a prem team will take him that's why I think he'll end up here.

Any thoughts as I think we must have some pull in getting him here, our board can afford him, he'll have a decent league 1 squad to start with and some money to spend and he would sell a few more season tickets.

I would have him. Would be a cracking manager in league 1.

Not sure who would want him in terms of other clubs but I for one would have him as my number one choice for the job at Barnsley. Not because I think he’s the best manager available but for the buzz that it would create amongst fans. I feel having a club legend back at the club like Mick would bring a huge buzz like when Hammill came back a few seasons ago.

We are looking for a head coach though aren't we to work with players from various spreadsheets?

I can't see any chance McCarthy would want to do that or be constrained to players below certain ages... I would like to see him come in and the board give him some cash and a bit of a free reign to build a team but I just can't see it if were sticking to a similar plan.

He's not going to QPR. Steve McClaren is having Cockney tuition in readiness for
    taking over there.

I would think 3 years with us, finishing his career here and leaving us as a top 10 championship side maybe pushing playoffs would be a decent end to his career and leaving his hometown club as a bigger BFC legend and in a much improved stronger position than we are now would be a sufficent project for him without the need for a overall Arsene Wenger type control of the club and also I'm sure we will now be allowed a couple of experienced players in and Mick will have a say on recruitment spreadsheet or not.

Out of all of the names ive seen mentioned.. he would have the most uniting affect on the club after relegation.. not everyone's cup of tea I know, but who is. It may just be the ...one of our own factor.. But id like to see him put in charge, Take us back up, then in 2-3 years time move him upstairs to oversee a young up and coming manager.. Sure the club would be in safe hands long term wi Mick at the helm..

For me it's a Director Of Football role that would be ideal. I'd love to see that with a young up and coming coach under him.

I think either Leeds or Celtic would be the obvious ones. Brendan Rodgers has been linked with Arsenal, Celtic know that it doesn't matter who they appoint they'll win the league anyway, so why not bring back an ex-player?

In my opinion we need someone in charge of things who isnt dictated to by people above who dont know much about football. A manager with a coach..... Or is that an old fashioned set up nowadays? Dont think cloughie would have put up with it

I'd not thought of Celtic you could see him there but as with Leeds it's about timing, what jobs will be open leading in to pre season because I'm sure he will want to have a new club by then and I'm starting to see us as his best option out of a limited choice especially now with rich owners.

I've said it for 18 months, we need a manager to rebuild the club from bottom to top. 1st team, u18's and u23's all failing so tells you things aren't right, Big Mick is the man to do that.

Stabilise the club, get us back in the championship and then move upstairs as DOF.

It's a no brainer, let's hope contact was made a few weeks ago and final stages of negotiations are in the process of being finalised.

Wouldn’t employ Mick as a Manager, would employ him as a DOF and give him overall control of all things football.
Build an identity through the club, employ appropriate coaches/staff at all levels to reflect including first team.

That's all well and good.. but we have just lost £5 million pound a season through relegation... so I would suggest a cutting back is more likely than giving anyone carte blanche over all things football at Oakwell .. Promotion will have to be earned and ability recognised .. on a budget. Before any new roll can be made available..

Just bringing this thread back as it's still relevant, McCarthy hasn't got a club even looks with Hecky sacked leeds seem to be going for a foreign manager, so to ask again where if not us do you think big Mick will end up? because I'm not seeing anywhere, lampard to derby, rowett to stoke, McLaren to QPR, Ross to sunderland

He doesn't have to end up anywhere for this season does he? Don't think he'll join a club he doesn't fancy just for the sake of it.

He's nearly 60 so I don't think he'll want to be out of the game for long and the longer you are out the harder it is to get back in, curbishley ince etc.

Very true but it won't hurt for him to bide his time til late September or October for example. History tells us there will be a raft of sackings by then.
