Give it 18 months and see where we are, Judge this squad and compare it against the last league one squad, once it’s had a season at this level. I agree judging them on the back of last season you’re spot on, but I also believe that if we’d have bought the promotion team in the Championship, they would have struggled just as they did for half a season in league one, for the full season at championship level. And never have come good, because of the brutal nature of that division, it’s not a division for learning your trade, and building up confidence, if you’re not used to playing at championship standard, or coming into that level as part of a well drilled squad of players, with belief and confidence, your in for a torrid time.
Brilliant post, they haven’t had a summer yet, yet some are writing them off already. Piss myself if we spent £5 million this summer.
I brought a thesaurus once, I flicked through the pages and found them all to be blank. There were no words to express my disappointment.
You're blaming the board again for the January window. The board backed the manager.Among the 7 players we signed P.H should have made sure he strengthened the squad with quality not extra numbers.
It’s been a disastrous 18 months - there’s no getting away from that. When Hecky left he took a lot with him - including as what has already been said, the ability to develop young talent - and to attract young talent from Premiership clubs. But but BUT .......... we have a new beginning. A brand new and potentially exciting new beginning. If these new owners get the key appointments right - that’s the CEO and the manager then the sky’s the limit. We may have already got the right CEO - we’ll see. We now need the right manager. Once that vital piece of the jigsaw is in place - we will progress quickly. So I urge the board of directors to go that extra mile and get the best manager available - even if that means paying big wages for him. Because when we start building from here there will be no going back. Gone are the days of three steps forward followed by three steps back because previous owners just couldn’t afford to keep us there. We will have set backs of course - but these owners have the means to keep the club going in an upward direction.
Or he went before being pushed because its time to admit if he weren't 1 of our own he'd have been gone a long time before
I truly don't believe that young talent from Premiership Clubs came to Barnsley FC, solely because Heckingbottom was Coach. Barnsley FC have an above average Academy and a reputation garnered over many years for a tradition of playing football in the right way viz: on the deck. Plus our recent policy has been to recruit young upcoming players with promise, in the hope we could develop them into saleable assets.
After the initial disappointment of relegation, I’m starting to think we are actually in a good position. We are all pretty punch drunk after losing waaaay more games than enough. We are now down a division, we have a group of players whose confidence has been affected by loss after loss who now have a chance to rebuild that confidence. We have also got shut of a manager who although a nice guy was so patently wrong for us. We now have the resources to get in the right manager and add key players to the squad, it might not be ideal dropping a league but it should give us all the chance to go forward and build a proper team that could and arguably should bounce back at the first attempt!
the selling of players is nothing to do with the new owners. they been here a few month give them chance. you can argue we have more of a brighter future. previously we was always a club who sold their best assests any chance we got and a club where a manager would look to leave first chance they got. hecky tried to leave many times, johnson left, wilson left. a very narrow minded post you have done.
Not sure what he took with him apart from his abysmal win % in the championship, he's left alot of dross thats for sure
Is that win percentage before or after 01/17 ??? Before??? Hourihane Morsey - (agreed to sign but went back to Wigan) Bree Winnall Or is it before??? Roberts Scowen Watkins And do you want to throw all the loan players in that were coming and going that the manager had to contend with during that time ??? Some people have short memories. The second half of 2015/2016 and the first part of 2016/2017 season was the best football we have seen at Oakwell for what - over 15 years ??? Manager - Heckingbottom
We don’t recruit enough contracted players to the club during the two transfer windows, until this changes were pissing in the wind, if you’re plan is to recruit, improve, and sell on, you have to have the next batch already at the club, to move up from the bench to the first team, then the next lot from the u23s replace them on the bench, and so on. Recruiting 19 year olds let go from top academy’s in good numbers is what’s needed every summer transfer window, we might sign four at the most, it’s not enough.
I think in the past signing two or three loanees was, to a degree, necessary but for every good one there was a bad one. We don't make enough use of our development squad. For the games Ugbo played this season we could have had Adeboyojo, Brown, Motley Henry in and around the team.
What clubs tend to do is bring 3 or 4 players in during the summer and build season on season. What you don’t do is sell most of the 1st team and then try to cobble together a whole new squad in the summer - like what PC did - basically because he didn’t have enough money to do anything else. I don’t know of any other side that’s played in the Championship recently that has had as many players through the revolving door as what Barnsley has had in these last 14 years. Ridiculous !!! And we wonder why we have been relegated. Even now - the new owners have to start from scratch building a team. We have the makings of a good defence - but positions that need to be filled include: Defensive midfielders. Wingers. Strikers. Goal keepers. And probably attacking central midfield - I’d keep Potts and let all the rest go such as Mallan, Mowatt, McGeehan, Moncur. I don’t now about Knasmuller. So there’s a lot to sort out for the new manager- but hopefully this will be the last time a nearly full new team has to be put together before the start of a season.
