Six full backs in a squad of 23 - RB Alexander-Arnold, Walker, Trippier LB Rose, Delph, Young Suppose both Delph and Young could do a job further forward and Walker was used as a right sided centre back but still it seems a lot that.
Can’t understand why there’s so many full backs. I get that some of them are versatile but it still seems weird. And welbeck too, what?
Southgate only sees it as 4 full backs as Delph will be there for midfield & Walker as a centre back in a back 3. If we switch to 4-4-2. Alexander-Arnold & Young are both comfortable in midfield & Delph could switch to been one of the two left backs. I don’t agree with Southgate, I can’t see why you’d play Walker at centre back, to me his biggest assets are his pace, strength & overlapping runs. Playing him at centre back takes away the biggest strengths in his game
Why? He’s barely played as a left back this year. Delph played regularly for the best team in the land & he’s in as a midfielder anyway. Young been the best English left back in the country the past 2 seasons. Young & Rose are the left backs. If you’d said Danny Rose hasn’t played enough so why not try Sessegnon I could understand that
England have got some fantastic players coming through from under 17 to under 21s they need to be getting in first team squads now, ship out all the ***** that’s had chance after chance and developed a losing acceptance mentality in a English shirt and get the young lads brought through.
The world cups the pinnacle, you don’t develop players at it in the hope they’ll be good in 4 years time. Done us no good with Walcott, Barkley, Wilshere etc Who’s the dead wood anyway? Don’t think there’s barely anyone in the squad who was at the last one, Walker, Jones, Cahill, Henderson & Sterling by my reckoning. Don’t think there’s barely anyone who’s had chance after chance
It does seem like a fresh squad but would be nice to have a wild card on bench like Jadon Sancho or Ryan Sessegnon or someone and sacrifice on elf the many fullbacks
