Better off whacking on an extension. Tore down our conservatory and built an extension. Got way too hot in summer and was a bitch to heat in winter.

You aren’t far off a single storey extension if they’re charging you £14k! Single storey extension is about £25-30 using £1,500/Sqm. and usually adds the same or more to your house. Unlike a conservatory.

Clever use of velux type windows and bifolds it is far better than an orangerie

Yep just had ours done by PLC.
Turned a conservatory that was unusable in high summer and winter into a great room we now use as a lounge.

I dont think you would get a proper orangery for £13,700

An Orangery is basically an extension but with a glass "lantern" in the roof. Usually they have a few more windows than an ordinary extension though

I think for £14K you are probably getting a conservatory.

We did an "orangery" extension to our kitchen a couple of years ago, its a proper knock through and added an extra 6mx5m to the kitchen, Its a proper extension with brick walls quite a few windows and french doors onto the garden there is no door to the existing kitchen its just made one big L shaped room. It does have a conservatory style roof - it looks like an orangery but isnt - that would have cost an extra 12k. The only real difference I could see was you can't walk on my roof where you would be able to on a proper Orangery. The room is brilliant though - we use it all year round - the reflective glass is actually quite good in Summer though it does get a bit warm if the outside is approaching 30C. It doesnt get hotter than the rooms upstairs in our house though. We installed underfloor heating and in the winter it is fine even when the outside temperature is below zero

We are really happy with it, and pretty much live in it all year round much more use than a conservatory but it is really an extension with a glass roof. I would recommend the company I used but I doubt they would travel to Yorkshire as they are a local company based in Hook - about 10 miles from Farnham.

We’ve got a splendid orangery at our weekend retreat in Newton Abbot. It was a bespoke build by a craftsman from Hearst Castle in Hastings.

It really is a wonderful place for just relaxing, conversing and reclining. We have grown organic apples and have a selection of deraniums in there. It is a tremendous space and I couldn’t recommend anyone getting one highly enough - it’s a crying shame that most homes don’t have one.

South West Mr Peachy. Really works well for exquisite radishes that we grow in it.
