Worth noting GG’s comments regarding relegation clauses in under contract players’ deals obviously doesn’t apply to AH. I wouldn’t have exercised the option to renew his current deal if I were the club either, it’s silly money in League 1 particularly considering SCMP that we have to comply with. I assume that the club offered a new deal on reduced terms but that he has decided to move on.
That’s me done - Hammill was the only remaining player that I had any connection with. New owners, new manager, new team? I can now walk away from my not renewed ST and not give it a second thought.
Tough. He’s a big boy and decisions have to be made. Folk want to keep him cos he stayed on the field and clapped at the end v Derby. Can’t keep players on sentiment.
Really hope this is Adams decision and not the club as if it is the clubs it doesn’t show much of an intention to keep players who can get us straight back up, the argument if it’s due to wages being too high for league 1 then let’s hope whoever they get paying half / quarter his wage is as influential but I can’t see it. In hindsight Adam was worth his wages and would have been worth them in league 1 in 2016 as he was influential in getting us promoted so he would be worth them next year if he was part of a promotion team. We got promoted by finishing 6th with hourihane, winnall, fletcher, brownhill, scowen, Mawson and hammill all massively influential, we have no one anywhere near any of them in our current squad in my opinion so there is masses of work needs doing for next season, how the bookies have us favourites I’ll never know. Anyway hope it’s adams decision and he has success in the future, he provided us with an amazing journey.
Pretty gutted with this tbh. He’s not got the statistics that shows he’s been great with his end product this season but he’s not entirely to blame for that and always left everything out on the pitch. I’d have loved to see him in league 1 again with us but I guess it wasn’t to be. I’ll never forget how he came in and turned our season around and of course, those Wembley goals. Good luck Adam.
Think it will have been Adam’s decision. A big thank you from me for your efforts on behalf of BFC. It would have been great if your final season with us had been something other than relegation. You will always be welcomed back.
I think it's Adam's decision. He published an Instagram video yesterday, joking around with his cousin. He asked him if he should choose the UAE, Barnsley or Australia.
Bit of an overreaction on here. Good luck to him. Would do a job in league one but well past his best.
All the very best Adam. Special memories for all of us and no doubt yourself from your time with us at Barnsley FC.
It's a big loss, mine and my lads favourite player, not many players show the sort of commitment and passion for our town that he did. Sad day but it is now time for someone to step up and be the new favourite. Kieffer, Potts, Izzy could come good next season, next season is a new start all round, new coach, first full season for the owners, we haven't got to rebuild the side from scratch we can just improve it and this league is winnable, it could be a good year.
Have seen a lot of players leave in over 50 years supporting the Reds and thought I’d stopped bothering too much when players left. But I was wrong. Gutted Adam’s left. And it’s not mere sentiment. If only a few of the other wasters had put in a fraction of the effort he did. Sacrificed a lot of his attacking instincts to do a job for the team. And he made it into my all time Reds XI.
Nothing wrong with the words about Adam. It's a lovely piece fitting of a player who's done well for us. It's the rest of it that's basic. Did Adam want us to take up the third year? Did our board release him or yet to be announced new man? If it was the board and our new head coach decides they have made a mistake, will they try and bring him back? Why a club legend is no more hasn't been explained at all. Now his departure is going to be full of different theories, speculation and assumptions.
Although the statement contains some nice words about AH, in its entirety it is a shocking piece of club comms which leaves you asking more questions. That really shouldn't be the case. Adam has made a great contribution to our club but his departure now frees up space to recruit a better player - he's not irreplaceable.
There's some fine posters on this board and one or two utter planks. You are clearly one of the latter.
