Why do referees bottle the big decisions.? As last man Jones should have been sent off for fouling Hazard for the Chelsea penalty.
Rules changed in 2016 - double jeopardy. Accidentally denying a clear goalscoring opportunity inside the area is now a penalty and a caution for the offending player, rather than a red. Ref got it spot on.
Was about to post the same. I watch virtually no Premier League football. After sitting through that the words that sprang to mind were athletically sterile. Take Eden Hazard out of the proceedings and the boredom would have been complete.
I was fully aware of the rule change. Football is all about opinions and mine was the way that Hazard was shielding the ball, although you wouldn't term it cynical, Jones had absolutely no chance of getting the ball and opted to stop Hazard from scoring by tripping him up. However the Ref saw fit not to send him off and on reflection that's his prerogative.
I wondered why the Chelsea owner Abramovich wasn't at yesterday's final. Apparently, he's experiencing delays in getting approval to renew his visa to remain in the U.K. With the rising tension between London and Moscow , a Government Security spokesperson said it would be inappropriate to speculate why the renewal was taking so long to sort out.
Jones is a very one dimensional defender. Conte worked it out. Jose is a bust flush. Will be at Leeds in 5 years.
I think he was trying to get the ball it was just a desperate almost futile attempt so I do see your point. Thinknthe ref got it right in that you have to be 100%(or close to it) sure it wasn't a attempt to play the ball.
It looked clear to me he was trying to play the ball. He’d have been better going with his left foot rather than right maybe but he’s gone to play the ball, he didn’t actually miss it by very much to be fair. He’s not intentionally just tripped him or hauled him back - even if there’s a strong chance of missing the ball and making a foul, if he tries to play the ball, which he did, the double jeopardy rule applies. Correct decision to give the penalty and correct to give a yellow. The fact conte went mad on the touchline indicates he doesn’t know the rules either, nor the players who surrounded the ref.
