I have had a tip that at the 2.05 at Redcar ‘smashing lass’ has a reyt chance. It’s 50/1 on sky bet. £5 gone on it.

It's a fairly quiet day today and to be honest, I don't tend to bother too much these days outside of the main tracks. This week the best action is at Goodwood (Thurs, Fri, Sat), Sandown (Thursday evening) and York (Sat).

That said, the meeting of most interest today is Wnidsor this evening. I think that Ryan Moore's rides in the first three races are interesting, although only Main Edition (6.45) is a backable price (5/2). The best horse on show though is The Tin Man (7.45). This horse is a dual Group 1 winner and has won on his seasonal debut twice out of three completed seasons. He hasn't raced as low as this level (Listed) since 2016, when winning this corresponding race. He is only Evens, but that is actually quite a good price when you consider this is a true Group 1 performer running down in Listed class. Should win, even if he will come on for the run.

    I’ve got a tip.

If you bet on horse racing then you are a MUG.

It's true to say that in order for bookmakers to stay in business then the horserace betting population as a whole, must lose. But that is not to say that every individual must lose. By betting with great discipline, and with an understanding of the fine margins within which it is possible, a profit can be made over the longer term. The key elements are strike rates, the prices achieved for your winning selections, and the obtaining of value for your bet, which means that the chances of your horse winning are greater in percentage terms than is represented by the odds applicable to your bet.

“That said, the meeting of most interest today is Windsor this evening. I think that Ryan Moore's rides in the first three races are interesting, although only Main Edition (6.45) is a backable price (5/2).”

6.15 Come On Leicester WON 4/9

    6.45 Main Edition WON 2/1

    7.15 Alwaysandforever WON 1/1

“The best horse on show though is The Tin Man (7.45). This horse is a dual Group 1 winner and has won on his seasonal debut twice out of three completed seasons. 7.45 The Tin Man WON 7/4

Amazing SP return of 7/4 for The Tin Man. I think that this was partly caused by Ryan Moore as expected winning the first three races and having one against The Tin Man in the fourth. There was also conjecture as to whether The Tin Man would need the run on his seasonal debut, but as I pointed out yesterday morning, he had won on his first outing in two of his three seasons since his two year old campaign.

Today is more low level stuff but Jim Crowley goes to Nottingham for three rides for his main employer Sheikh Hamdan and I reckon all three have chances. I’d back them in singles because I’ll be surprised if all three manage to oblige, although all three of the trainers concerned are currently enjoying a 20% or better strike rate in the last 14 days. The beasts in question are:

    1.50 Daarik (3/1)

    2.20 Ibraz (11/8)

    2.50 Mashaheer (100/30)

The prices in brackets are the best prices at the time of writing (8.10 am)

Many thanks for the comments chaps. Things are going well at the moment which is due in no small measure to the good weather, and the formbook therefore holding up, with most flat horses being more at home on good or firmer ground. Never forget though that we are doing well if we get 33% winners or better - provided always of course that our average return price of winners is 2/1 or better! In that small area lies the possibility of longer term profits. Dealing with the 66% with equanimity is important! Tomorrow does not look particularly promising, but nice meetings at Goodwood, Sandown, York and Haydock later in the week.
