Hibs said to be keeping tabs on him wouldn't be surrised if st mirren came back for him too. Both head coaches limited his apperances last season and i can't see him sticking around if he isn't going to be a regular starter in the midfield next season. Watch him go back to Scotland and be a good player in the spl.

There's a reason why two totally different managers didn't like him. He'll be a hit next season in League 1 and has the potential to be a top Championship player but wouldn't be surprised to see him move on.

In the cameo glimpses l’ve seen of him l have been impressed, he was by far the best set piece taker we have, and a threat going forward, l think that this ‘attack-mindful’ attitude fell foul with our previous defensive Coach’s, l would go so far as to say given the chance we could have our next Houriane so l fully expect him to be pushed out.

He definitely needs to be starting just about every week for us next season. I for one will put my neck out there and say he will score some bloody good goals and create a lot of chances for the front line. Give him a good run of games and we will all see.

Is that based on his performances for St Mirren or the cameos during his time here? I hope he succeeds but he’s still down the pecking order for me as things stand notwithstanding our need to recruit a new defensive midfielder that’ll push him even further down.

It’s based on both but mainly in Scotland. I really think he will exceed in L1. But he obviously need to get his head down and work bloody hard. Chance to become a fans favourite

His big issue is he’s very lightweight & not defensive minded at all.

That’s fine if you’re one of the best players in the league as your team can afford to accommodate you but unfortunately he wasn’t & we were in a relegation battle.

I’d like to see him stay but we’ve got Mallan, Moncur, Potts, Mowatt & McGeehan who are all attack minded central midfielders. At least 2 will leave I’d guess & other than Mowatt I’d expect him to be favourite to go

Think he’s made for our right sided midfield.

CH couldn't tackle child when he first arrived. Not sure if it was down to CH or the coaching that improved him (probably a bit of both). Easier to teach/coach someone to tackle than it is to teach them to be good going forward.
In my book Mallan would be a starter for his dead ball abilities. We've really missed that since CH left.

I agree with that. Big pre-season ahead for him and we’ll see what happens thereafter. If we play a central midfield three then I think he’ll be there or thereabouts due to his skill set, it’ll possibly be more difficult for him if we go with a central two and recruit a defensive midfielder simply due to the weight of competition.

Absolutely. Mallan has excellent technical ability and great vision which is obviously a good starting point.

Great to see all the positive views on Mallan's potential.
I think he was really unfortunate to make the stray pass that led to a goal after Jose gave him his start. Up to that point I felt he was our most positive & effective player in midfield. His half time substitution turned out to be the end of his season.
I hope the new manager recognises his potential early doors and backs him all the way. Definitely seen enough in the cameos to have confidence he'll nail Div 1.

The only one of the 3.2m attacking midfielders we signed last year with any creativity and good technique. He has the potential to be the next big thing for us but he reminds me of Hourihane when he first came, needs to work on his game without the ball. Still, would be my number 8 come August.

Weren’t hibs linked with him before? Rehashed rumours I’d guess.

I’m glad others are also seeing his ability/potential that I also see.

I guess, like with many of our players last season, the championship was just a step up too far. I think league 1 could be a good platform for him to perform and develop. And similarly to as others have said, I want us to be a threat from set pieces again.

Agree with all of that but the problem Mallan’s got is he’s in the exact same position as Moncur, Mowatt & McGeehan & all are lacking defensively. If the coach prefers one or two of the others then he might never get a look in.

At least with Hourihane he came straight into the team & scored & assisted a few so he’d made himself undroppable.

Probably need 2 out of the 4. Whichever they choose it will be a gamble, but for me it would be Moncur & Mallan. Don't see Mowatt returning & McGeehan was only making the bench at Scunny (which is a shame as I had really had high hopes for him)... maybe it is a bit early to write him off after such an horrendous injury but if it is to be 2/4 then right now Moncur & Mallan.
