The Full Ponty is apparently a qualified coach.

That’s a tongue in cheek post by the way and in no way am I drawing comparisons between Bobby and TFP.

Too young to know about Alan Clarke but wasn’t Wilson a no. 2 to Anderson & Heckingbottom was coaching the younger lads.

Hassell’s not doing any coaching is he? At least with the other two people at the club can say they’re impressing on the training pitch

I don’t understand the previous comment as when I spoke to Clarke he was telling me how he came as player manager with the draw from the club’s perspective being luring an exceptional player albeit one whose yard of pace had gone.

Wilson was indeed VA’s number two but it’s common knowledge that everyone realised early doors that Wilson was the man to lead the club forward as opposed to VA.

As for Heckingbottom, it’s very different as we had just qualified for the JPT final and were a fair few games unbeaten in the league with an excellent in form squad. He came in as one of our own and rode on the crest of a wave for the remainder of the 2015/16 season.

With the quality in our squad we should have been knowhere near the foot of the table

I reckon we would have won the European Cup if he stayed this season. After all isnt that the direction we were going in under him?

Go to settings and turn on spell check

I've seen Barnsley promoted five times.

78-79 from the old fourth division. Manager was Alan Clarke. His first managerial job and his first season in charge.
80-81 from the old third division. Manager was Norman Hunter. His first managerial job and his first season in charge.
96-97 Up to the Premiership. Manager was Danny Wilson. His first managerial job. His third season in charge after finishing 6th and 10th in his first two seasons.
15-16 Up to the Championship. Manager was Paul Heckingbottom. His first managerial job and his first season in charge. He also won a cup, the only one I've seen us win.

Only exception to promotion under a novice manager was Andy Ritchie's team. And to be honest, as great as that day in Cardiff may have been, it wasn't a very good team.

When I think about great Barnsley teams, great performances, superb football, it's the teams managed by Hunter, Wilson and Heckingbottom that immediately come to mind.

Consensus is we need an experienced manager, a name. From my experience of watching Barnsley, 40 years now, it's the exact opposite which produces good teams, good football and, crucially, success.

Maybe Bobby doesn't want the job, maybe he wouldn't be the right choice, but I'd have no problem if we went down the route giving a recently retired player, or even a player manager, their first job.

So what your saying here is...

When a manager starts out for the first time. They do what they think is right.

Play attack and go for the win.

And once they try be clever it generally turns sour....

Interesting read that. Makes you think...

You make more sense to folk than you realise pal.

But yes. A drink is well in order. Take you up on that.

It will seem too long before the new season kicks off

Don't remember this. I do remember you racially abusing Chen Lee about four months ago though.

Nice guy who loves the club and town but I think it’s a route we shouldn’t explore at present. Bit more experience under his belt and I’d definitely give Sir Bob a chance.

One win in 16 games with us and then somehow managed to turn a more talented Leeds side into utter garbage with four wins in sixteen games so those damning stats would drastically suggest otherwise.

The only thing that might have maybe kept us up is if we had sacked him in December but the stupid “one of our own” tosh gave him immunity.

I have consistently said that bobby hassell should be our manager

Yes I did question mr lee for allowing our manager to be poached

The jury is very much on the current owners

I.also remember you slaughtering the previous owner ,but when questioned about providing facts to back your accusations your tactic was to make up spurious allegations about myself
