When criticising PC you have to realise that he had comparatively little money compared to owners at other clubs.
    He just couldn’t compete.
So instead of bringing in a load of older players asking for higher and higher wages - he changed the strategy to recruit young hungry players.
This was clearly the right thing to do.

We’ve seen some good players at the club in recent seasons - hence the rush to sign them.
What PC did get wrong is that he should have been better equipped to deal with players contracts.

Players contracts has played a significant role in the lead up to relegation.

You've got to back him if you're a Barnsley fan. He has my 100% support.

He seems a better bet than Morais on paper (who had failed at a number of clubs), and id rather have him than some of the other dinosaurs that have been banded about.

Doesn't it concern you that his experience is limited to 34 matches in the German 2nd division (6 as a caretaker) and that, despite the regularity of how often Germans change their coach, he hasn't had another job for over a year?

I don’t trust this board at all. From the calamity of the Jose Morais era, we’re now tasking a novice with 28 full games under his belt and no knowledge of the English game to get us out of a tough league. Club is becoming a joke and it’s sickening.

Really? My point is general assumption that a coach from abroad shouldn't be selected and we should choose an English manager.

My granddad used to say "A dunt want non uh yond foren muck"

When he frequented that bastion of cosmopolitan that is Magaluf. That was over 20 years ago. Just thought I'd share that.

I don't think so. It's June 5th. He has a full run at pre season and the transfer window. It's not like when Morais was appointed with us in a relegation battle and only 15 games left (or whatever it was). Last year we needed a quick fix to save us. Now I think we can give a bloke time to input his ideas onto us.

It may or may not be the right appointment. But time will tell.

Makes me laugh that people have been calling for Lampard, Bobby, Scholes etc. but when we get a young boss with a decent enough first stint some of them lose their **** over it.

Give the guy a chance. Whoever it was it was never going to be universally liked unless Pep or Mourinho had fancied a change...but even then someone would probably be moaning about it.

Fair enough....given the expectations will be high...the gap between the Championship and league 1 is widening and no surprise all 3 relegated teams have gone straight back up, how long will he be given, where do you expect to be say after 15 games. My worry is he may be a really good coach but will he be afforded the time to prove it. I would have preferred someone with experience of the division, the players we need to recruit (some prior knowledge of our squad / weaknesses). He won't really see our weaknesses until competitive matches

Give me one good reason to trust them after they allowed the Morais appointment and also allowed this appointment of a total novice but that’s obvious because it’s the cheap option.

Let’s also not forget that this ‘consortium’ were told to **** off by Middlesbrough, Bristol City, Hull City, Brentford and Real Valoldolid before settling for us so there’s clearly something not right about them.

My thoughts echo their presser when they said the club seemed too good to be true because that’s what I think of them as a group with the minimal investment we’ve seen thus far.

Them being loaded isn't a result of them owning Barnsley football club.

I completely see that point. From the outside looking in, it seems our owners are here for the long haul and so he will be afforded the time to improve the club. Hopefully if we miss promotion this year, but show enough to suggest that it would be achievable in the following season id be happy.

If we're 18th come March though, playing insipid football in front of 8k crowds then it's a different matter.

Previously I was highly critical of Morais, but I see this as a completely different appointment.

I won't pass opinion on whether its a good appointment if this guy happens to be the case or not as I have no idea whatsoever.

What I do think though is that the recruitment process probably doesn't take into account (because it feels there is no need to) any experience in England - never mind a particular division. this is because the way the structure has been chosen to be set up is with a committee for scouting players and as we were told last season video analysts who watch other teams.

We choose to appoint a 'Head Coach' - whose job it is to coach the players as his disposal that have been sourced by others (and that he takes a look at- to 'sign off') - and he plays against teams that have been watched by others and which he has been given 'dossiers' on.

Whether its right or wrong who knows but I think that's why the club probably believe you don't need, for example, an older British based manager who has been around the divisons before.

I echo Nutkins’ earlier post. The very worst kind of emotion is apathy. Right now I just don’t give a ****. The Club has now become just another commodity. It’s really sad that I’m just not ar$ed anymore. Up to the Club now, to bring me back in.
