Referendum question: "Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union?"

There are countries which are not in the EU but are in the single market and/or the customs union. Similarly, alignment with the Schengen area and/or with the principles of free movement of workers is maintained by members of the EU but also by some states who are not members. The ballot paper was silent on all of this. Therefore, when you vote 'leave' you are really giving the politicians the prerogative to apply their version of Brexit. The politicians can only deliver what they are able to pass though parliament. At present this is unclear, but it may become more clear after next Tuesday, when the Withdrawal Bill returns to the commons. But even then it will depend upon whether the EU are able to agree with what the government, with the approval of parliament, are able to put forward. Subject to any further parliamentary manoeuvres, there remains the slim possibility of a further referendum on the final terms of the Brexit deal. Whatever our personal preferences, these are the realities of the situation.

So "Brexit means Brexit" is simplistic, and not the whole truth. There are further layers of meaning which have yet to be decided.

Brexit means whatever the individual wants it to mean. A decent compromise to me would be to leave the EU but remain in the Customs Union and retain membership of SM via membership of EEA. Satisfies no one but follows the outcome of the ref and doesn’t mean committing economic suicide.

The north's been dead for years, thanks to Thatcher, that's why place's like Barnsley voted for Brexit thinking it would change and now it looks very much like it will get worse, thanks to Farage and Tory Brexiteer's.

Places like Barnsley will suffer even more from Brexit when they lose all the EU money which preferentially goes to such places. Places like Windsor on the other hand, probably won't even notice it.

Liverpool will be the same - a lot of the money it's received for regenerating the area has come from the EU

Wait till it dawns on them in places like Sunderland that their pop-up Nissan factory, which exports 80% of its product to Europe, can be un-popped and removed to....Europe. The voters were so badly misled by the likes of Farage, Johnson and Gove with the campaign of hype over reality.

I’m pretty sure Cameron said that when we leave we will leave the lot , which also means not having to put up with the 4 freedoms, which most people saw as an opportunity to police our own borders, which is one of the problems . So everyone did know you just conveniently forget this point.

I'm fairly sure we'll leave the EU without a deal.
I think the EU expansion days are over though, with eurosceptic parties on the rise in places like Italy and many smaller nations.
In the end there will be some sort of resolution, but I can only see the poor areas of the country suffering the most.
If any northerners really think the likes of Gove, Johnson & Farage are on their side they need to have their heads examined.

And that was dismissed as Project Fear by those running the Leave campaign.
