"A Tuesday night trip to York City at Bootham Crescent begins in a 7pm kick-off." In a kick off? The article writing is huge. They must think we are blind Good line up that. Chance for fans to visit a lovely city and go to a team we have never played before. Not bothered about Hull, but our home friendlies have been poor since Bordeaux.
Happy with York away as it is a very short trip along the A59 for me but a much better one would have been Harrogate Town away. My local side did the double over York last season on the way to a historic promotion to the National League. This would have been a great test for us. Still, I’m happy to revisit Bootham Crescent. Memories of that 3-1, or was it 3-0, win in our Fourth Division promotion season - feels a lot more recent than 50 years ago
Delighted York's on a Tuesday night, wouldn't bother normally as it's 150 miles from me but I'm conveniently being forced to travel up to Newcastle for work that evening, will provide a nice break from the journey
Check the comments from Salford’s twitter page... The Barnsley/Burnley confusion continues on for another season!
1-0 victory in 78-79 Fourth Division promotion season in thick November fog. Derek Bell scored. The game when Brian Joicey ended up suffering a stroke.
I missed a lot of that era as I was just coming to the end of a four-year posting on Salisbury Plain so didn’t get up to Barnsley too often. Missing out on Brian Joicey was offset by the wonderful times watching the Clarke/Hunter sides at their peak as I had the next few years at Finningley and Digby, so easily commutable. I was talking about the FIRST Fourth Division promotion campaign in my other post.
Would've been a good excuse for a day trip if it were on a Saturday. And I don't fancy taking a day off for it. So yes, it's a shame.
Without looking up the records we did beat them 3-0 away around that time. I vaguely remember George Hamstead scoring
