Coaching Staff Appointed! Club News Barnsley Football Club can confirm the appointment of Andreas Winkler and Christopher Stern as Assistant and First Team coach. Continue reading on the official site...
Think he's going to need all the help he can get to change the culture of the players in order to implement his ideas, I think it will take some time and we need to be patient, perhaps we can be in touching distance of the play offs at Christmas and make a big push in the new year with some extras signings. Its not going to be clear if the current players are willing to implement his ideas until we've played a good number of competitive games.
Automatic promotion all the way for me. Enough little Barnsley timidity. We have the players and resources to finish in the top 2 and should do so.
I feel unusually positive. I have to say I'm not always right. Last season we had a young team that lacked quality and fitness. We have dropped a division, and with some ins and outs have a squad who could walk it with the right coach. From what I've read the credentials look to be there.
The problem last year redbluenwhite, was that there was no consequence for failure with these players, it was everybody else's fault and as much as I like PH, he wasn't hard enough to give them real grief, nor had he a real plan when things went wrong I think this new coaching team WILL be laying down the law, and anybody not performing will be gone Wonder who'll that will be?
One from a semi-professional club that play in Regionalliga West, the fourth tier of German football which has 5 regional divisions that include reserve teams from professional clubs and village teams that play on recreation grounds. The other with one year's coaching experience working under Stendel at Hannover. It's utterly bizarre this.
Got to admit - it does seem slightly strange. Wonder if Stendel had full backing to bring in who he wanted, or was constrained by what we are willing to pay for coaches. Imagine who came with him was part of his negotiation. Perhaps he knows these lads are top quality and this is their chance. Will need a quality fitness coach so wonder if that will be a Stendel appointment or if we have someone earmarked for that role. The whole coaching set up needs improvement so hopefully that is something the board recognise and will back Stendel to install everyone and everything needed to be successful short and longer term.
Doesn’t he have a bit of a point though mate? I’m also hearing he doesn’t speak a word of English (could be wrong) and considering this is on the back of a disastrous punt with Morais. Hardly surprising people are questioning this appointment. Hope I’m massively wrong, obviously.
I’m guessing ones his mate from their playing days and the other is his old player/coach from when he was at Hannover, no real surprise appointing his mates, look at what Wilson and Hecky both did when they got rid of the previous assistants, Hutchings and Clapham were hardly star appointments.
I’m not sure wondering about the credentials of the coaches is particularly negative. Just be nice to hear a bit about why he’s chosen them and what particular skill set they will bring to the table. I’d also like to know whether Stendel can speak English. It’s not negative to ask those sort of questions. Unless Monkz, Bradshaw, Jackson and co have all been taking intensive German lessons it is a curious idea how they will communicate. Unless it’s complete crap and he speaks brilliant English. Which makes it even more strange we haven’t even had a clip of the fella talking like we normally do. Everything sounds really promising and actully quite exciting. However we don’t know much about the new coach so isn’t surprising there’s a few questions
Which bit don't you agree with Gally? Have you heard that Stern has had more than a year of coaching experience or do you disagree with my description of Regionalliga West?
We've appointed 2nd and 3rd division German coaches to hopefully get us promoted from the English 3rd division . Now hope is hope and i love the optimism but It's just chuffin crackers . It's nice and sunny at the moment and everyone is optimistic but when it's pissing down in January and we're away to Rochdale that's when they'll need to earn they're money .
No issue with either of the appointments. It’s worth noting that Heckingbottom had no senior coaching experience until he was thrust onto our bench. People were also calling for Hassell, Harsley and Devaney to be involved yet they have little or no senior coaching experience either. If Stendel thinks they’re up to the job and have his trust then that’s more than good enough for me.
