Footballers are paid ridiculous sums of money to... play football. I'm sure if they get too knackered they can be quickly cheered up by a swift look at the bank balance. Stop treating them like hard labourers.
Might not just be about the players. Extra time would increase policing and stewarding costs to the club and the competition attracts lower attendances in the early rounds. Removing extra time - even if just to go straight to penalties could save the clubs thousands each game.
I suppose it helps fans with families as well. At least they know its only going to go on average another 20 minutes more than the allotted time meaning kids get home earlier and they can plan around transport better.
Nothing to do with money. It's about injuries. You have a very ****** up world view if your first thought when you see this is "but the players get paid a lot of money"
The exact same one. It was pointless then and now with youth teams allowed in its even more worthless. If we could stick to our natural level of the championship we wouldn't have to endure this ever again.
Why is that a ****** up world view? There are many professions that carry a daily risk of injury; most of them are more important than professional sport and none of them can come close to being paid anywhere near. And those extra 30 mins really don't carry a significant extra risk when you consider some teams in the Europa League etc can end up playing upwards of 10 extra games per season, often with multiple games going to extra time. 30 minutes in the second round of the League Cup or whatever aren't more likely to end in damaged cruciate ligaments than 30 minutes in any other game.
