How will it have an effect on the rec? Been going since the 70's managed for nigh on 40 years without SLA'S input I'm sure they can manage another 40 years

I find it all a bit sad another avenue for young players cut off
And the abuse aimed at the owner because he is a Wednesday supporter is also sad I'd like to bet none of our owners are Barnsley supporters at heart just a business venture to them

The fact they were paying the rec rent to use Sherrien park and also updating the changing rooms

I think it's this actually quite sad for our local non league football. Yes, it's widely known that the owner supports a rival club to Barnsley, but I can't understand why people are dead set against having a successful non league side within Barnsley. I've been to a few of their games, even more so when joined for the stadium share with athersley rec as it benefit both clubs, there were many times at the Shaw lane games Rec staff would be watching the games too. I don't believe the club would have ever gone on to challenge Barnsley FC, but if they had well good on them, but when you enjoy football, going to watch a local non league side can be more enjoyable than paying the extortionate prices of going away to watch your side. There's many other non league sides local to us, but they had a chance of been a real competitive one. Shame really, a lot turned out for the FA cup game too which had a brilliant atmosphere, many of the people their, myself included then made our way to watch Barnsley beat Birmingham. I'm probably one of the minority but I'm sad to see the club go, as I'm sure the family associated with Dan Wilkinson a player that passed away whilst playing for the club will be. The club did a lot for the foundation that was raised in his name and now it's sad that won't be allowed to be carried on in football.

It's a shame because they are by far the most ambitious club in the town and I don't see any of the others trying to emulate them by getting as high up the pyramid as possible. The abuse the owner has had went way too far.

What crowds do they get? Man Utd are sold out most games, so I guess makes no difference to them.

Like I say, I understand your thoughts, but from a pure business sense, it doesn’t stack up. A club of our size has to be more careful.

Wonder what would happen if chien lee suddenly come out as a Wednesday fan
how many closet fans do Barnsley have
Average attendance in 15/16 was about 10k how many armchair supporters wanted tickets for Wembley visits if Barnsley were worried about losing fans they could have priced tickets more affordable they would,nt have been worried about losing fans to a “rival” non league club

Ticket prices are irrelevant. We’ve competitive prices for our league and stats show lower ticket prices doesn’t always equate to higher crowds - just lost revenue.

Never had much interest in shaw lane but i was pleased to see another club from my home town excelling and getting to the fa cup proper. I find all the sniping a bit disappointing really. I loathe wednesday with a passion but to childishly name call shaw lane's owner is a bit irrational really.
But hey ho now shaw lane are gone and i probably won't give them another thought: they were insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
I am now safe in the knowledge that the club with 150 supporters will not be stealing supporters from us.

Don't forget they brought their own 200 seater Stand with them from Barnsley RUFC. Wonder who he's going yo sell that to. He could leave it to the Rec as compensation for pulling out of the ground-share early but I doubt it.

How do you work that out Bradford have been doing it for years and getting 17k crowds in league 1 Huddersfield season tickets last year were less than 200 quid
I would rather have the well full for a better atmosphere lower ticket price actually increase revenue you pay for a cheaper ticket your more inclined to get a programme a pie and a pint generating extra income for the club

This has been gone through several times on here. Even Mansford and Cryne said same.

Catering was subbed out too, so no difference to us.

Hudds threw money at it. Bradford are struggling financially at the moment. Not great examples.

Back to the original point - it’s a shame, but I can see BFC stance.

Very much this. Living in Leeds, I was a bit too remote to have any strong views on any of the local non-league teams but took an interest in watching their cup match on TV this season.

However, seeing the "Karma's a bitch" tweet, and realising the extent of the hostility he felt towards BFC from the subsequent 'clarification' means that I don't care in the slightest about their demise. You can't whinge on one hand about wanting Barnsley fans to adopt them as a second team within the town when you're openly slagging off the club they support, including posting a gloating tweet about their relegation before most fans had even made it out of Derby. Hardly a recipe for success.

Did the Lease even complete, John? A ten year Lease is compulsorily registrable at HM Land Registry and yet there’s nothing registered in respect of Sheerien Park save for Athersley Rec’s 60 year Lease from BMBC.

It was also a showcase for our Towns up and coming footballers who didnt quite make it or mature as a player letter on life .
They’ve managed to kick some of our own in the teeth imo
