Just in case you haven't noticed there are other clubs in Barnsley who could help with development like Penistone Church.

Personally I don't like anyone loosing their jobs . I'm sure a number of Barnsley residents relied on Shaw lane as some sort of income . Whatever "football politics" came before the loss of their jobs is a mute point . They weren't responsible .

BFC didn't make anyone redundant though. Their owner did.
It seems to me that this guy bought his way to successive promotions by outspending the opposition a la Chelski then, as soon as he hit a level playing field, took his ball home.

More like Fulham under Al-Fayed, once they got to the prem he wasn't a rich owner by comparison to the rest of the league. Although he carried on for a good number of years didn't as you say tale his ball home and refuse to play.

Yep. I've no massive axe to grind with the guy but nearly every football club has a realistic ceiling level at which they can compete. Fans always dream and sometimes dreams come true. But Rochdale, for instance...never been above the third tier and not spent much time even in that. If you applied the same logic as Shaw Lane they'd have packed up 100 years ago.
There's no reason he couldn't have throttled back his investment and let Shaw Lane compete at their natural level. It wasn't BFC that killed the club, it was the owner because they could no longer be guaranteed to go out and win every week.

Exactly that, to compete at the level they have got to they would need some fans. Not sure how he can go blaming everyone else for the fact they don't have any. I know a few lads who go down and watch the Rec, Shaw lane isn't the local team on the door step they like to go and watch the Rec is. Not sure what he expected just turning up in Athersely.
