Good to see some communication coming from him and there are some useful bits of information within it, most notably the fact that Stendel was headhunted, rather than him applying for the role. The biggest concern for me is the bit about identifying players for both the Championship and League One scenarios, which suggests that we're continuing the model of the Head Coach having limited/no involvement in identifying targets. Given the epic failure of this at the last transfer window, Knasmullner being the poster-child for this, I'd hoped to see this change but it looks as though it will continue. Beyond that, I don't think there's a huge amount of information we didn't already know from other sources, but it's good that the communication is coming through official channels. Here's to more of the same.
The same Hourihane bought under Danny Wilson's tenure before the word "spreadsheet" had been uttered? But yes, keep on believing the last three transfer windows have been brilliant if you like.
The difference is back then it wasnt used solely. We used a statistical approach alongside signing experienced players. Patrick then effectively banned experience and this **** show has followed.
This is my fundamental issue with it, given how openly frustrated Hecky was with the summer window and the fact he chose to quit straight after the January one. At some point or other it will result in disengagement between Board and Head Coach, especially as we don't have a recognised Sporting Director who's making the choices and can be held accountable.
Nicely balanced response John. Your thoughts presented in an excellent well rounded fashion with an inciteful rapier like wit and reposte. You should be proud.
I think you have hit the nail on the head with regard to player recruitment, most teams who have a "head coach" model also have an identifiable "director of football" who lives or dies on the players they recruite. At Oakwell this person works in the shadows and is never acknowledged either favourably or unfavourably. If the supporters knew openly who was making the decisions it would help and would take some pressures of the "head coach"
You can tell who the mavericks are, contributing to their own little sub-thread. Oops...I'm one of them now.
More a case of me posting before seeing the Newsbot one. I saw the link to GG's statement on FB pretty much as it was posted.
Seriously, has anyone read this? I'm pretty upbeat for the new season, if anyone has read most of my posts, but I think this is a very poor press release. Given the last season & relegation I'd have released something that wasn't just newspeak. I'm not anti GG, or anything. This is just poor though.
I usually run along similar lines as you jp, but I thought it was encouraging in its emphasis that they wanted an attacking ethos and informative on the way they'd handled the recruitment. It certainly reads as though they've done their due diligence with him. I just hope it's been more effective than with Morais. It also calmed some of the criticisms that he doesn't know this division by reassuring us that Hassell etc would be heavily involved.
Maybe I read it wrong. I'm not in the negative camp, I'd just hoped for a bit more. Most of the folks on here seem to be positive about it, so I'll let it go.
There's no black and white. Maybe there was some other stuff he could have expanded on. I think they're doing more fan forum type things aren't they? Hopefully that might clear some more things up.
