Interviewer: Will he(the new head coach) have final say on the transfer policy?
GG:The Head coach has an input at the start of the process to build a technical profile proposition.
Then we identify our targets through data. Then I work financially on who is possible - maybe 10 players per position. then we narrow down to 3. Present it to the head coach and discuss with him and we will try and get his first choice. Depending on the finance we will try and get his first choice if we cannot do it we will jump to the second choice.

Looks pretty clear now in many ways - next time someone says "who decides" i.e in every day for the next 200 days please lets just re-quote this.

It's from the full interview between Gauthier Ganaye and Andy Giddings on the Football Heaven webpage.

No doubt certain posters will still be stating “facts” that something different happens.

We have actual clarification with it now, so no need to debate/argue about it any further.

    Exactly.
And there were some duffers on here that thought because the job is titled Head Coach then that meant the manager had no input whatsoever on the players that were brought in.’
I know that sounds incredible - but it’s true.
    LOL !!!

Ganaye might as well be the coach. Stendel should have the full authority to identify his own targets!

Disagree, because when he leaves the next short term dictator says he doesn't want these players and so it Goes on...do you understand this way of working even if you do not agree with it? If so then explain how a new manager ( dictator) coming in every 1 to 2 years and replacing the entire team with his players works better?

There's even some duffers who think the head coach identifies a player and passes the info onto the CEO.

So it's exactly as I thought then. The coach gets to name his preference from a list presented to him after he initially lays out the criteria for what he needs.
So it's a bit like asking a child if they want a bath before tea or after, either way they are still getting wet.

Stendel should seek out the players he wants not have his options narrowed down to 3

Experience is key to progress so get that plan in the shredder and stop trying to reinvent the wheel.

So how come have we ended up with a squad full off attacking midfielder's and no ball winners, it's all well saying these things but the evidence of the last 2 transfer windows says different.

I'd imagine that if Stendel sometimes had a specific player in mind we would try to get him. If he helps dictate the profile of players we want then you'd think if he said Joe Bloggs from Sachsenhausen Kloggers is the perfect fit we'd try to get him or he'd at least go on the list. Just the same as under, say Simon Davey.
Also under Davey we signed a good number of foreign players, none of them well known. You can't tell me he'd seen them play. They were scouted by someone else or recommended by an agent and then scouted.
    Presumably the process was therefore,....
    I need a right back
Agent or scout suggests someone. If it's an agent he gets scouted.
Davey says yes or no and the CEO tries to buy him.

In a lot of ways the new system isnt that different other than the spreadsheet does the scouting.

Well said and exactly, the difference being the traditional scouting system had individuals going “I think this guy is great” Manager would then spend hours travelling to see, where as the people who work on the spreadsheet reduce that workload.

So basically, if we are linked with any of Stendel's former players at Hannover, it's 99% boIIocks?
