item on BBC north news today. Is it really like that in town now? Haven't been there for donkeys years.
walk through town, mid morning most days and yes its rife , same people same places , openly dealing and no cops about .
Because all money is the same pot of money. My neighbour just built a hundred grand extension, could have spent that on monitoring the CCTV in tarn
Maybe council could hire rick grimes instead of forking out for cctv , could bring his crew to wipe out the zombie smack rats or round them up and send them to dee dar land
I've seen the same thing on Frederick Street in Rotherham. One of them had passed out and the police and ambulance workers were looking at him. Christ knows how much they cost the public services without putting anything back.
First im hearing about the CCTV situation, i work 12 hours a day Monday to Thursday so dont really have any time during the week, but i finish work at 13-00 on a Friday afternoon, give me a few of hours for some food, afternoon nap and a shower so say 16-00 hours, and ill have no problems what so ever, sitting in a control room watching TV screens untill 04-00 hours of Saturday morning. relaying the info on to the bobby on the ground, Same gose for Saturdays in the summer, id only be at home watching TV anyway, I’ll even use my holidays from work to go on training if needed. so thats 12 to 24 hours a week covered if they’re bothered.
I wrote to my MP about this issue. They are trying to regenerate the town centre throught re-development and attract new people. It is not acceptable to have people openly dealing and taking drugs in public places on every level. I was attending a little music event at the side of the civic, attended by lots of families with little children playing outside and watching the events. Some of these children were having a little game of footy on the grass and the ball rolled down to the alley at the side of the civic and the globe travel offices. One of them went running for the ball but came back without it becuase he said there were some men down there. So a couple of people went down to get it for them, me and my daughter walked down at the same time to get into the town centre.. 5 or 6 young blokes, were there 3 of them laid out completely out of their trees on drugs, another throwing up against the wall and the others sat on the steps to the back of the globe offices.... We went to find a copper into town, not a single one walking a beat to deal with these people. I hear so many people saying that they need help not punishment. Well if that's the case, take them off the street and into some form of rehab. In that state you cannot mix with the general population. I've always thought that drug dealing or taking illega drugs was as it states...Illegal... So the police should be making arrests.. Then how they are dealt with can either be indeed rehab or punishment & rehab. Leaving them in public places is certainly not acceptable in my book though.
Unfortunately the resources for rehab facilities have been cut to the bone as well as the police force thanks to the austerity regime. The effect of austerity is that these people are now mixing with the general population as there is nowhere else for them.
I don't buy into blaming austerity when ever anything is ignored there are enough resources to deal with this issue. It's a proper cop out... We don't see the effects of police austerity during matchday when there is a copper every 10 yards! Again I agree austerity doesn't help but come on we have the resources to at least have 2 or 3 police officers walking around the town centre.
