to your daily/ weekly life . I’m just interested to know how much football impacts on people’s life. Do you plan weekends/holidays/ weddings etc etc around football
Though I struggle to get to many games it's very important for me. Has been all my life. I do try to fit a game in to holidays where I can. Hoping to visit relatives in Colombia next year and fit a game in there.
Can’t be arsed with most of it these days unless BFC are involved. Although funnily enough I can’t pass a Park Sunday league type game without watching some of it.
No matter where I visit the trip would not be complete without watching a game or visiting the ground.
During the summer of 2007 I waited for the fixtures coming out before fixing our wedding date for the following November. It was an international break. If it wasn’t for watching Tarn I wouldn’t bother too much.
Hadn't missed a home league game for 38yrs (broke mi leg playing football and missed a Tuesday night match cos in hospital) then missed wendies at home this year cos I was so ill was gutted. Then lo and behold booked a ten day holiday abroad. Going on the Sunday after Norwich game. No more home games in between. The bloody thing got called off and rearranged whilst I was away. Tw_ts. My life revolves around Barnsley. Couldn't give a toss about football in general. Especially premier league. Unless we were in it of course.
Back in the day I was more dedicated than I am now. I work all over the country but have made some ridiculous journeys to get back in time for midweek matches. Remember in particular that I had a nightmare of a journey back from Coventry to get back for a certain midweek Huddersfield match. M1 was closed and I had to divert via Nottingham to the A1. Made it into the ground as the teams were coming out the tunnel after a 3 hour journey. 45 minutes later we were 6-0 up. These days, although I have a ST, if I have to miss a midweek match because of work its a bit 'meh'. Not happy about it, but don't worry about it. Away games, used to be about 3/4 of them, recently more like 5 or 6 and last season it was 1. So no, not as important as it used to be.
love it and hate it lol , for me its time spent with my lad. going through every emotion during the match joy, anger, laughter and every thing else we put ourselves through. jumping on him when we score and doin myself an injury. about the only chance I get to let of some steam shouting till my throat is sore , for 90 minutes its probably only time my lad gets away with swearing in front of me. talking about how **** we were or how **** the ref was again on way home best of all time away from our lass
It used to be very important to me, I used to plan my holidays around it and everything. To be perfectly honest, last season I missed a game because i forgot it was even happening. Life catches up with you eventually and things take different priorities.
It used to be the be all and end all for me went 4 seasons not missing an home game and took over 40 people to watch the Reds over the years(since 1982) but rarely go now fallen out with football its been ruined, still love the Reds to win but I've learned there's more inportant things in life. But hoping to get to some games this coming season.
Yep. I barely missed a home game for over twenty years back in the 70s, 80s and 90s. I couldn't have contemplated not being there on a Saturday. When real life breaks in through the bubble you realise that, though it's in your blood, life holds greater priorities. But, hell, it may not be life or death but you never get it out of your system.
At one time, the football club meant everything to me. I even travelled up and down the country watching our Fourth Division team, playing poor football in stadiums that weren't much better than some local non-league grounds and absolutely loved it. As I got older, circumstances altered, we married and a few years later started a family which brought about greater responsibilities. The number of away days was somewhat reduced. We did ensure our wedding took place during the close season, though! I still love our club and the friends I meet up with on matchdays and, just to show how immature I am, the result always affects my mood. Until the next game.
As far as Barnsley FC goes, I don't plan around it, if I've got something else on that I can't avoid, I just miss the match. However, I would try to rearrange things where possible if I can do so without upsetting anyone else. As far as other football is concerned, I've no interest whatsoever. I didn't even know that Russia were playing today until I accidentally stumbled across the result. I find it tedious in the extreme.
It's me and my lads time together, no wife or anyone. We've driven back to Oakwell when we've been away on holiday. Barnsley fc is more important than football.
Football in the broadest sense is something that has grown distant from what I got hooked on in 1980, there was a time when everything was planned around football, the Cup Final was a must watch and so on. There's so much football on that it's kind of worked against it's purpose with me. In terms of TV football, I do watch the odd live match, but much prefer Match of the Day 2, highlights of a couple games, and goals from the rest. One of my first ever posts on here was a bit of a lament and fear for Barnsley FC when we're last relegated, but when I look back, it was another turning point. Whilst my priorities changed when my son and then my daughter arrived, I've learned that there's much to love about Barnsley FC, meeting friends, enjoying away games (some fantastic supporters at opposing clubs in League 1 last time), and whilst it's lovely to watch a winning team playing stellar football, don't dismiss the value of our football club beyond what's on the pitch. Football doesn't matter, Barnsley FC still does.
I try and get to most Barnsley games that are practical - so most Saturday home games and away games within a couple of hours of Farnham - will try and bend holidays to fit but its not always possible and given a choice of a weeks skiing and missing 1 Barnsley game Id take the skiing. For the World cup I dont have the interest I used to. Will watch the England group games and a few others and some of the knock outs, but I am on holiday for the last week of the tournament. If we are by some miracle still in it I will annoy the Mrs by finding a bar to watch but if not I will probably not even bother. Will miss the final whatever as we are travelling back that day, though in the almost impossible event of us being in it I guess I will try and watch on my phone
Similar for me. I have little interest these days in the national side or international football in general, or indeed top level football in general. I never watch friendlies and often don't even realise they are on. I am on holiday though from next weekend so will be away for the remaining group games and the start of the last 16 games. So will watch the England games in a bar somewhere. I am unlikely to see much else of it though as, although being on holiday during a tournament sounds ideal, when its just me and the missus on hols its just not fair on her if I spend every evening watching football. She may as well have gone on her own. So we'll walk past the bars with the tellys on and find a nice place to have a drink together. And that will suit me just fine
everything i do is planned round watching reds,as soon as the fixtures are out next week i will be at it sorting trains for away games, time off at work, holidays wi mrs etc etc, spending time with my lad at games is the norm, ive tried escaping it but theres no way im sitting in house watching stelling n co or getting dragged round meds or anywere else for that matter, didnt miss a game last season home and away 1st time ive done it in 41 years of going to well, whether i do it again i dont know lol took some doing not to mention the money i spent so call me a diehard or idiotic the bug as bitten me and i cant get get rid roll on august.
